Just look at the last 15 years, the records broken in drought/heat/cold/flooding/extreme weather condition, such as hurricanes/ cyclones/tornadoes

I heard their head forest guy talking about that. The weather forecast for the day was way off. The winds were forecast in the safe range when they started the burn. But the winds kicked up big time.

Last night's Nova was about the asteroid that killed the dinos and just about everything else 66 million years ago. They were doing a dig in ND from that time that had massive flood kill-offs. They figure there were two 30 foot walls of fresh water that washed through half an hour apart. Keep in mind this is a couple thousand miles from the event. Along the gulf coast the waves were 100 meters.

The best guess is it was ten years before enough of the dirt and dust fell to the ground that the sun started shining though and the age of ferns began.

As bad as it was for everything alive at the time, we wouldn't have came along without it.
