Extreme Defoliation...

The question is, is there a need for it?
IMO (past experiences), besides uncovering top budsites and lollipoping the bottom larf, anything further is "doable" but "uneeded".

It does make harvesting a lot easier/less messy though.
Some plants do not like it from experience. Some plants thrive, if you can grow a satisfactory yield and not strip leaves awesome I would go that route, I'm personally trying to pack as many colas into my net as possible and get the most airflow and light penetration possible. I have done trials since 2019 with Punch Cookies by Symbiotic (as in previous pics) and it went from 10 ounces per/plant to 13-14 ounces per/plant just by practicing heavy defoliation and topping the plants a couple times around.

I can only say try and see, just don't go super heavy and leave the top few nodes of the branch and let the plant develop UP from there. As you can see in the first pic I leave the tops but strip everything else below, by the time the plants are in full bloom you have a few feet of colas and those lower buds get mid sized instead of small scraggles. Trial & Error everyone has their opinion.

IMO this is proof defoliation has worked on this scrog if anything I would say is the canopy is too bushy and it could have been thinned out more.
The plants filled the screen really well and the canopy is full of buds, the plants look very healthy, always good to see short bushy plants, no point in growing them 6ft high.

Lol

Taller plants have greater root systems and support bigger donkey dick colas than a small plant. 4-6ft is a good height for me gives if you can light your plants with enough watts you can easily have a canopy that is 2-3ft deep with bud. When a short plant is 2-3ft in total. Makes a huge difference in yield and average bud size IMO.

Have you looked into main-line, SCROG, or SOG?
These are all short wide bushy plants with donkey dick colas under 4ft high because LEDs will not penetrate the canopy more than 3ft, so there is no point in having a 6ft plant, you would end up lolloping the lower 3ft.

This is a good example I found online.

Again. I LOVE the weeks before harvest pictures. They are rampant on this forum.

Who said LEDs only penetrate 3ft? Can you cite a source saying so? How many feet does HPS penetrate?

you reckon I should try this mainline thing????

Using led even the very bottom nuggets were respectably dense i sure af would've cut them off if I wasn't revegging them.

The photos crap but it's still clear enough to see it's not airy, I've never had that with hps.

looking at your plants, Yes!
@bk78 plants might be 6ft high, but he has some good thick 12-18" cola's on the top.
Have you got a cheap lux meter or downloaded the app on your phone, hold the phone/lux meter 12" under a thick canopy or 3-4 sets of fan leaves, the lux will drop really low, something like 100,000 down 5,000, light doesn't really penetrate fan leaves, the leaves absorb the light(guessing 40-50%). how could there be light deep in the canopy?

how much light was the canopy letting through 25%-75%?
Fan leaves absorb light, I can't see how much light was getting to the low bud sites, the plants looks healthy (green stem) so it redirected some food from the canopy down to the lower bud sites.

I don't know the answer to how much light gets through I've never give it a thought, what I do know is that the whole plant grows not just the cannop, I don't get your point?

This here bud for example it never actually seen direct light and it was at this farthest point from my light.

The point is, the canopy will use all the light on available bud sites and new growth, but there is A tipping point, where they're not enough light, airflow, and food for the lower canopy(buds) so they will grow more fluffy.

You have the balance about right for your strain.

My point is it's not all down to light penetration for lower bud growth, but often less canopy will result in thicker bud growth over the whole canopy. I had the same, one cola was only receiving 30,000 lux and the bud was thick and solid, I think the plant redirected food to the bud from other parts of the plant that were receiving too much light.

Why would you even compare our plants?

I’ve held a tape measure up numerous times in my journal to my colas and most colas are taller than any whole plant I’ve seen you post on here?

Your little coffee mug picture sure was cute though, gave me a good chuckle.

If it makes you happy, believe anything you like.
Even you know it's a good idea to lollipop tall plants, that's the only point I was making about your plants.

lol at a few main stalks that are about maybe 4 ft tops andthe rest of the long internode spaced plants with small airy nugs is 2.5 to 3ft....

that room that big and those lights are at 6ft and the table is off the ground

thats a B bud dreamscape right there

lol 6ft plants...i see a few colas that are tall...
