I have a buddy that used to grow in one back in the early 90s. Small yield, low quality and potency. His outdoor grows were always so much better. I never thought id say an outdoor grow was better than an indoor grow, but in this case, it was.
If they were effective, they'd still be making them, and the masses would still be using them.
The last model I seen from them used blurples ffs.
Good for vegging cannabis? Ok, maybe, but for flowering.... not so much.
If I'm gonna go thru the trouble of converting it to dwc, and full spectrum led, I'm just gonna use a tent.
They don't have airflow, so there's another upgrade that would have to be made.
Tents are easier, more versatile, and just all around better. That's why people use them instead.
The 80s called..... they want their phototrons back.

They don't make them any more, the company is gone..not once did I say to go buy them.. I bought 1 Phototron in my life and the other 6 were given to me or I traded them a few hard to get clone only strains..Phototrons are still around apparently otherwise this thread wouldn't be here and you can probably get them for $50..I just trying to helps people that do still have them..

Myself and roommate had one in early 90s. Don't recall yield; maybe an ounce of marginal bud and and plenty of larf; but we were happy; it beat scraping resin out the bong. Not long after, I saw a small HPS grow setup and the phototron was quickly replaced.

I have no problem with that.. even when I had a 1K veg and flower rooms I still used mine..I'm using one right now for winter grows..during the summer I do outdoors..

Yea, I'm still not sold. I've witnessed grows in them. Again, I'm not saying you can't grow in them. Just expect to be disappointed if you do.

Anyone that would praise the Phototron is a complete moron and totally ignorant. The Phototron is already historically known as an overpriced piece of crap and the modern ones are just more overpriced crap. $1000 for a damn box with 100 watts of light. Nothing more than a marketing scam.

And who the hell cares how much money he made or how many he sold. He left nothing but 150,000 unhappy buyers after they realized what a marketing scam that junk really was.

Before I knew anything about growing weed I definitely fell in love with the "promise" of the Phototron. I never had a ton of space to grow in so the idea of a relatively small, kinda cool looking "appliance" that supposedly could crank out a decent amount of good weed was always attractive to me.
