Don't ever give up on old seeds!

Nice plant man
thanks! she is a little beat up but that's mostly because she is in my breeding tent with 4 different strains that all like to be fed differently and I don't have the time to make 4 different feed solutions every day. When I run her in my flower tent she does much better. it's an extremely robust strain though and takes the abuse well.

This is from a seed that was over 30 years old.
That’s really incredible. The tree and the 30 year old bean. Did you use ga3 for the old seed?

I just inherited some old beans that have dates from the late 80’s to early 90’s. One bottle marked “#1 skunk pheno. These seeds are the shit!!” Haha hell yea.

I’ve tried mine from the late 90s-00s when seed was common in bud. Failed so far even with ga3 but I probably did it wrong.

Any idea what strain it is?

I didn't end up using anything on them, the only thing I did that I wouldn't do with fresh seeds was scuff them with sandpaper. that being said, only 1 bean popped out of the 8 or 10 I tried to germinate. I may have had a higher success rate with ga3. once I got one to pop I cloned it as soon as it was big enough. one clone became a mother, another clone got self'd so i would have fresh seeds in case I lost the mother for some reason .

I know exactly what it is. it's one half of a breeding project I've been working on. The plant in the picture is (get ready for it): ((Northern Lights x Skunk #1 x Shiva Skunk x Afghani) x (Pakistani Chitral x Super Skunk)). It was crossed and stabilized by the guy who helped me learn how to grow pot when I was a young lad.
I wonder what northern lights was used and the afghani used pck is a good strain ultra dominant tho its like deep chunk or nyc diesel i find

As far as I know it was an NL#2 and an Afghani #1. I'd say that the Paki and the skunk are the dominant strains in this mix in terms of terpine profile and some of the flower structure, but the Afghani and the NL definitely make themselves known in terms of the high.

Nice, thanks for the reply. I’ve had some old ones crack open and then either just stall out there or turn to mush. Storage is probably everything a these ages.

for sure. mine where kept in a cool dark place for most of that time and still had super low germination rates. super happy I got one to pop and have fresh seeds and a mom to keep the genetics around.

What, 30 years ? Awwwwman that's about the time I got my start when bricks were limey and not trash like today's brick weed I'm sure is (haven't been that desperate in a very long time). What strain is that ? Wernt near as many around so it was more simple to select from. I'm curious today we have put an emphasis on F1s for selective pickins and veriations in pheno or F5s for more stability and reassurance we get what we bought. Then we have S1 which I've heard Mean Gene say If you have a cutting you don't want to lose better send it to Nspecta and S1 it.

Super cool man, looks like your doing a heck of a job with your project. I don't know your over goals but sounds like you have a really good grobro or mentor to guide you or bounce ideas off of. I wish I had that mentor person or other growers to bullshit with but nobody where I live talks about it but I've done good for teaching myself just tweeking to a thing or two I saw a deal tonight on a skunk plant listing Skunk#1 x Shiva Skunk x 1982 Kentucky Skunk from a breeder with a good reputation. Since your experienced does that sound like a working mix of strains. I have always enjoyed the older generations and listen to stories and knowledge and I met a guy on here that has to be close to 80 and this man has been super respectful and super helpful going out of his way to help me source some rare genetics.

True that heard this on the potcast too what i wanna know tho more is does anyone have any thoughts about any breeders who are good with embryo rescue with seeds rather than s1ing cuttings?

Ive seen this happen to some and way i think of it is basically the seeds used most of its energy staying alive for decades or whatever in dormancy then uses whats left to pop but after that its like they just give up aint got the fight to do much and die and i talking about seeds that been cleaned prior to germ not cos of any pathogenic influence id say so idk its something I've thought over a few times luck imo can make the difference
