Trimming the tip of a cola in flower

I read somewhere a while ago of a technique (forgot what it was called) where you trim the tip of a cola in flower, to which the plant responds by growing and fattening that cola up beyond what it would have if left alone. I'm curious to know, has anyone here tried this with autos?

Its called “ Back Building / Bud Pinch “ … kind of a lame technique to hypothetically increase bud mass by cutting 1/8” off of bud. Mostly done to take uglier bud growth and make it more “ bag appealing “.

Doesn’t add bulk or increase yield. It keeps apical tip from going vertical. Trued it before - didn’t really make much difference….. if it did im sure many would do it.

Another fable IMO.

So no difference in yields, just makes the buds short and thicc?
Kinda hot...

So no actual yield benefits, but it sounds like a good way to control the height of colas that expand above a canopy you're trying to keep level. Assuming it doesn't also hurt the yield.

@Budzbuddha would you say supercropping during flower would be a better way to control the canopy? And for autos, would both tehniques just be a mistake?

I had a clump of nanas on the apical bud. I took them out and the plant flowered normally. Although that too cola seemed to stunt after that.

Only one way to find out. Try it and take some pics!

It just basically makes the buds/colas grow more roundish so they feed into automated bud trimmers better and with less loss of bud to the blades. I've tried it by doing half the colas on a big plant and tagging them with twist ties. Definitely rounder but when weighed were not any heavier than unsnipped ones on average.

Kind of like boobies. I prefer the cone shaped ones myself. perv.gif

Here’s a apical bud ( main ) , i just pinched and bent. Bud recovered and is more uniform with other growth.
( northern lights auto )

so yeah , you can supercrop autos.
