You just have to love that pic of lobbyist Stephen Linder, the president of the Michigan Cannabis Manufacturers Association :bigjoint:

I cannot believe House Bill 5301 is headed for a state House vote ...

then we had the kentucky farmers fighting the yankees behind hemp bails
then you got world war hemp for victory lol
they want other countries to have controll over us in some way. think about...

You can say whatever you want but money and back room talks is what gets things done in government. You just need the lobbyist to go talk to the state representatives that we can win over we don’t have to have as many on our side as them they need a 3/4 vote. We only need a 1 vote over a quarter. I have talked to several people with a lot of money who are interested in donating to the cause. I’m willing to put up quite a bit myself. I also want to take out add campaign with low income patients that won’t be able to afford to buy at the store or grow there own.
Who's collecting and using the funds from the people interested in donating to the cause today?

There are multiple groups doing good work, can do some research and decide which groups approach you would like to support. The MCA ran by George is more about pressuring representatives with a kind of in your face approach and we will vote you out if you go against us, they have hired a republican lobbying firm, but refuse to donate money to politicians campaigns. The MCCA run by Alex and Ariel have taken a more mild approach and have also hired a lobbyist. Then there is the United caregivers association and I am not sure exactly who runs that group or what their efforts entail.

There is also another group of people that set up a education dinner to educate the representatives on marijuana since at the committee meetings it was clear they didn’t understand much at all about the growing process. For instance they didn’t realize we didn’t cut all 72 plants at once that they are all spread out in stages.

I guess what I dont get about the caregiver system is: who cant afford to grow their own? I mean you could grow 3 autos outside over the summer and spend maybe $10 in fertilizer. Indoors I could put a 3 plant system together for under 500 easily. Guys on RIU grow with a couple of 50 dollar led lights from amazon. So I mean I guess I don't understand the point. Like I hate the idea of big Cannabis. And lets be honest, its already here. And its starting to get swallowed up by the agricultural sector. Look at Scott/Miracle grow. They been buying up everybody.

Trust that once its fully federally legal and big tobacco/Big Pharma can put money in banks, nobody stands a chance. Then we will have FDA requiring checks on "caregivers" products. Especially if your going to call it medicine.

I could give a long list of clients who can’t or don’t want to grow
DIY isn’t for all

How so ?
been doing it for decades in front of my house
So you are the whole US? You represent the entire cannabis industry? Cause I can look at the start of any industry and most of them did fucked up shit. Didnt one of the great lakes burn cause of all the pollution in it? People are greedy. I expect them to behave as such. Yeah I'm gonna have to say I support mandatory testing of products sold by home growers. Too many scummy people in the world that will kill others for a profit.

Hmmm
I view it as too many liars viewing things in jaded glasses for personal gain
I see it as a Michigan grower the only ones that ever burned me were Michigan guys
Probably a terrible way to view things
But like you my perspective is jaded
And for the record
I did my fair share of advocacy for decades
Just not sure what today’s fight is for $$$
Much has changed with the advent of the web
Like chess at multiple levels and the same ones who opposed medical/legal are now trying to cash in
No I’m not the whole nation , I’m just one voice who likes to think made a bit of a difference :bigjoint:

I’ve tried to teach all kinda of people to grow and they never get anywhere near the quality or weight I do. It ends up just being an expensive waste of money. Not to mention a lot of patients are old or physically disabled and simply don’t feel like taking care of a garden or can’t.

I can appreciate that. Do you think that the caregiver system needs oversight?
No. People have been caregiving here for 12 years and I’ve yet to hear of any health problems from it.

I’m not sure of your age but I’m pretty sure if we survived smoking that brown Mexican brick weed, Canadian beasters, and Northern California greenhouse house mids before there even was a legal market. That a guy growing for himself and few patients that are often friends doesn’t need a 600 dollar test to know it’s safe.

I think the "test" of a caregiver's quality is simply for the patient to try it. Compare to a store and you know what you have got. Testing is just another level of control and cost, not a real effort at safety.

Everything revolves around money. When it was illegal they could force surrender of assets when they found a grow. When it became legal they wanted 2 things - control of who can grow it and sell it, and the ability to change the laws and enforcement of it to continue the quest for MORE $$.

Now that it is legal and they control who can legally sell it to the public, of course that isnt enough so they will look for ways to squeeze in all directions - more taxes on cultivators, purchasers, sellers and of course continued enforcement against large illegal ops and confiscation to collect $$ (for the cops) and to deter the illegal market (for the cultivators and stores).

Next they will look to further consolidate the market, by lowering prices in order to squeeze in all directions and increasing supply. They will attempt to get you to stop because you make less or cant sell it. They will push as much product and taxes onto the final consumer as possible.

Then, if the national mood allows for it, the large multistate conglomerates will further consolidate by lobbying for interstate cultivation and sales, allowing production scale to factor into the viability of the business.

The one and only solution to this is to get everybody you know to grow their own. When people don't NEED the stores, you get Washington, Oregon and Colorado. Dirt cheap quality bud because everybody and their brother grows it and it became so cheap most wont go to a store or if they do, pay absurdly low amounts.

There are and always will be competing goals -- it cannot be legal, and have illegal grows and not create tension. Option1, which the cultivators and stores want, is to further restrict and squeeze home growers. They start with the caregivers. Then they come for you next.

How to fight it? Get grows going. Sell more so the stores are undercut. There is no winning once it is legal in a state through lobbying. The big money is already invested in legal.

There is winning by having laws setup initially that allow the consumers to avoid the stores. 12 plants is a lot! There is winning by lowering costs over time to stay ahead of the stores. My 10c.
