First grow in 30 years, Sour Diesel and Durban Poison

I‘m actually about 5 weeks in now. I am growing with hempy type buckets and a drip system, with gh 3 part nutes and calmag. Lighting is a HLG 600 R. I posted earlier in the plant problems forum and got great advise from members about my leaves looking off, the problem was ph related, here’s a few pics from then.

Here they are a week later starting to look much better. I am using well water and am constantly battling ph wanting to rise. I do have an RO filter on the way now, can’t wait to stop adding citric acid several times a day! I had an air pump in the res and that didn’t help, removing the air stones helped a lot.

Here they are today looking fairly good. I‘ve doing a bit of LST using wire, and am getting ready to add a scrog net later today. They are definitely staying bushy like I was hoping.

A quick update. I got my ro filter, a stealth 150, and it works great. After mixing in my nutes my water is 5.8 ph vs without the filter the ph is over 8. I was adding up to 8 tsp of citric acid a day to try to keep it in check, very glad that’s over. Got my scrog net up and they seem happy. I did a complete flush yesterday as well to get any excess salt build up as well as old non-filtered water out of the system. I threw in an extra pic of my new tiki grow room as well, I wanted the ladies to feel like they were in a tropical environment.

Been a week since I updated. I did switch to 12/12 lights day before yesterday. I might have waited too long, they are getting big Fast. I’m having fun trying to keep them under the scrog net though, the Durban poison does not want to move sometimes and I have to use wire to help hold her down a bit. I did clear out a ton of fan leaves both under the screen and those blocking light above, trying not to remove more than needed. They are drinking about 3 gallons of water/nutes a day, and I am still topping off with full strength nute solution daily and changing the water every 3 to 4 days. RO water requires less ph balancing than before but still adding 4-5 tsp of citric acid a day as well. I took 4 clones and they are doing well so far, 2 from the Durban and 1 each from the strongest looking sour diesels. They are all very dense, don’t know if it’s the lighting or the setup and attention, but they are going for it!

Wow a lot of growth this week. Here they are, buds just starting to form. the Durban is much harder to train under the net, the branches are much stiffer and while strong are more brittle and snap easier. I have my scrog string tied at each end so am able to remove the string, move the branch and place the string back, just a bit more work. I may go back to tying the larger branches off with wire again to keep them from getting too tall.

It’s been about 3 weeks since the flip to 12/12, and about 1 week of real bud growth. Seems they are still doing well so I’m not going to switch anything up this week. I have been removing a lot of fan leaves on 2 of the plants and leaving the other two alone to see if there’s a recognizable difference, but that could always be due to a different pheno, lighting position, etc but figured why not. Seems right now the plants that have had the most fan leaves removed are budding faster and with more bud sites, but still too early to tell. The 5’ x 6’ scrog net is fairly full now, not many empty squares and many have more than 1 bud site coming through, and they are starting to stretch some.

These are seed grown from crop king. I wont go on a limb and vouch for them yet, the purple haze I got from them didn’t germinate, but they did quickly replace the seeds so I can’t complain, they stood by their 80% germination guarantee. Both plants smell great so far, just haven’t got to try any yet.

Another week and i think they are looking good. The buds are starting to get super sticky, especially the Durban, and the smell is amazing. Changed the GH flora trio nutes from 25mg, 25mg, 25mg per 5 gal to 25mg, 12.5mg, 30mg. Still adding 12 mg cal mag as well, and still using only RO water. Upped the light from 70% to 80%, and have not raised it yet.

Been a few weeks since I updated. My drip emitters were clogging, switched to straight 1/4” tubes with cut off valves turned low, seems to be working. Set up some tubes to hand water in case of emergencies. Got a few yellowing leaves during the clogging, and now some more starting but I believe it’s because they are getting further into flower, about a month to go by my estimate.
