I think that car is for rich people who have garages and other cars as well. If I had the money I would get one. They are so insanely cool. I could see it as actually a good investment as a collectors item for car collectors. That car is so bad ass. Definitely a chick magnet for old middle aged guys going through mid life crisis. At $119,000 that’s pocket change for rich people . They can drive it till it breaks down and sell it or keep it for a collectors item.Until something goes wrong and you have to wait months for service because they lack support infrastructure. I was a fan early on but they seem more focused on developing self driving technology than they do in providing service support after the sale. I would never buy one myself as there are better options out there now with many more that will be hitting the market in the next couple of years.

Tesla has shown at the Model S Plaid delivery event the drive units responsible for the amazing performance, including (0-60 mph in 1.99 seconds including rollout).
Let's recall that unlike the standard dual motor setup, the Plaid cars are equipped with a total of three electric motors. One in the front for the front axle, and two in the rear for the rear wheels with torque vectoring system. The total system output is 1,020 hp (about 760 kW).
The drive units integrate high-speed electric motor, inverter, and single-speed transmission (despite the top speed being up to 200 mph (322 km/h).
The top speed will be available when equipped with the proper wheels and tires (available fall 2021).

Elon said it plan and clear during the event last night. In order to convert the masses over to ev's they first have to be convinced that electric cars are the best cars period. No ICE cars can compare to the Tesla Model S Plaid in performance. This lends credence to all EV's down the line. It will convince more people that EV's are the future & we should be supporting green energy creation....

Let's be the best at efficiency, not the best as wastefulness. There's a whole other axis that's not being looked at.

My guess is that it is the infrastructure (roads for cars, electric plugs for EV) and price that is what caused cars to take off.
Henry Ford should be Elon's inspiration. He wasn't playing fuck around on airplanes (I'm talking out of my ass, maybe he was) using resources that could otherwise go into building a better car at a price that the middle class could afford.
Not just cheaper, but smaller/lighter with better efficiency would be great. If their strategy is, as you say, to make cool(i.e. wasteful) cars first, *then* to actually get on board with being green(i.e. efficient), that would be excellent. It's just that they're sure getting some mileage out this cool part first. Fist car was sold in 2008.

Hopefully some of the new infrastructure plan will help develop EV supply networks. EV charging stations should be replacing gas stations all over. Newer versions of cars are able to charge at a much faster rate and that should increase EV car sales.

The Standard Range Model 3 comes with a 50 kWh battery and 263 miles of range. That makes the model 3 efficiency at 0.19 kWH/mile. If driven 15,000 miles, the model 3 consumes 2850 kWh per year or 237 kWH electricity per month
The average home consumes 877 kWH electricity/month
But you miss the point. The average gas-driven car consumes 657 gallons of gas each month. 8,887 grams of CO2 per gallon, 5800 kg/13000 pounds per month. The Tesla emits none. Cars are already being driven. Switching to EV is the greener option.

There are other players in the market that cater to high efficiency, most of them, Tesla isn't the only EV maker, soon they will all be. He who comes up with the best battery wins the race and they are pouring money into a variety of battery technologies, not just lithium.
