Watering problem experiment

Hi again all, as the title explains, this is an experiment. I have decided to grow 2 x autos in an 8l pot, they are in allmix with 2 x Mars ts1000 ( canopy temps 25/27°c and 30/40%rh, light cycle is 24hours). Basically I am in week 1 of flower and having issues watering. They will both droop as the pot becomes dry, but then when I add water the leaves curl as if over watered. At first I thought maybe rootbound but no roots are visible through drainage holes. The first pic is when pot is bone dry, hardly any weight and second pic is after 1l of water

Not watering enough, DBL the amount
Have also tried bottom feeding and same thing happened. Filled tray with water and let it sit in it for 15mins. Same thing happens. Almost like roots are choked when watered. Soil is plenty aerated, I have layer of clay pebbles at bottom and extra perlite mixed in

I grow very similar- I water/feed until I see the start of run off then stop,I grow big auto's in 3 gallon fabric and water/feed every day if they need it or not approx 1 gallon per plant when furry tennis balls appear -the key in flower not to go over 550-650 ppm (maybe stretch to 700 ppm), works a treat for me :eyesmoke:

Will fabric pot material work as a wick?
For sure. Place the pot on top of perlite in a tub/bucket, and fill with water until it's an inch below the pot. The air gap is important. Perlite will wick water to the pot, and roots will start growing through the pot down into the perlite/water. Plants love it. I switched everything over to sips, I always had problems watering. Growing has been much less stressful :blsmoke:
