Chauvin Trial

I don't know about this being a watershed moment for our struggle against fascism in the police forces. Certainly, the event pulled the wool from the eyes of many. Certainly, a large number of people see the Floyd murder for what it was. Certainly, the events of last year, with Floyd's murder figuring large, sentiment has shifted toward alternatives to armed police interventions in non-violent situations. But this country hasn't reached a tipping point where change is imperative to the majority. The very reasonable protest slogan "Defund the Police" triggered so much fear and outrage among the mostly white community that the saying became politically poisonous to Democratic leadership. This country didn't change much last summer.

There will be large protests when Chauvin is given his pass at murdering Floyd. Some property damage and some resistance to police charged with protecting property will happen and draw more outrage from Fox show hosts than Floyd's murder ever did. Biden will be blamed by right wing media and the whole thing will turn into another attempt at rehabilitating the now tattered image of Republicans as "good Americans".

I'd like to be proven wrong in my belief that convicting a cop for killing a Black man is impossible under our current set of laws. Even so, things won't have changed all that much. If we really want change, we need to change the laws. We need to defund the police and put that money into more effective public safety programs.
I believe the Floyd murder and others are a turning point in America, whether he is convicted or not, if he is not, it will just bring it on faster and harder. The top priorities are HR-1, voting rights and infrastructure, to provide jobs for those troublesome white males, police reform too, but after the really important stuff. The next decade will be risky in America and until the republicans are fried at the polls, they will not change and then they will be incapable of it because they are controlled by a base of racist morons who operate on feelings and are impervious to logic and facts.

The republicans must be kept out of power for the foreseeable future and perhaps permanently by the creation of a new party to replace them. Open primaries are a simple way to blunt the power of the republican base and if republican politicians had any brains they would be all for it, or be forced to circle the drain of history along with their base. History shows that they are on the wrong side of it, but the next few years will be particularly dangerous when you consider the next crop of candidates the base will vomit up will be worse than the last. They are auto selecting sociopaths and narcists now and they are the only ones who can satisfy the base in many districts.

Your greatest assets now are January 6th, the republicans behavior and Donald Trump himself. HR1 should take care of the dark money and Mitch's corporate cash is cut off for the senate over voting rights. The house members depend on small donor donations and Trump is trying to vacuum up as much of that as he can, cutting into house members donations which are mostly driven by dog whistles and culture war issues. With Trump's scandals and not being on the ballot, the republican's suddenly fucked up finances, the inflexibility of the base and Joe's stellar performance, I'm hopeful for 2022.

Im worried about the people that use those protests as cover to do violence.

I hope you are proven wrong too.

I think Joe's people are onto that little game of Proud boys types coming in and stirring up shit, most of these clowns are wanted men now. I have a feeling the feds are watching for that particular thing, justice in the courtroom will take care of the people in the streets and black community leaders will cut those out at night burning buildings and looting off at the knees. A guilty verdict will help them immensely and having the world by the balls inside the democratic party and a seat at the table of power will help a lot too. The winners should be home watching TV and the losers in the streets freaking out, not the other way around.

Crazy is hard to predict, and the 'Proud Boys' are just one of the brandnames that people sort themselves into.

Anyone vulnerable on any issue is weaponized and a potential terrorist event in the making.

I truly hope that you are right about Biden and his administration being ontop of all of this, but they are neck deep in dealing with the Jan 6th nonsense still and the wacko's that will do shit like blow themselves up on Christmas day are so utterly random, so I am not as faithful in it.

I hope Garland brings back a couple of thousand recently retired FBI agents on contract for a year or two. They should not curtail investigations because they are overwhelmed by crime, a lot of stuff needs a really deep dive and there are thousands who belong in jail. Just bring back the cream of the crop, people who can lead the many investigative teams required. A few hundred of them could focus exclusively on rounding up and indicting everybody who was at the capital, even those standing outside with stupid looks on their faces. If they lead the charge and broke into the capital, conspiracy and max out on charges for anybody who entered the building.

The regular FBI folks are dealing with the ringleaders and perhaps the political actors. There is plenty of evidence for mass wire tap warrants and obtaining phone records of members of congress and right up to Trump and others. Mar Logo and Roger Stone's house and phone should be wired for sound at this point in time, anybody else's would be. Lindsey Graham, Devin Nunes, Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz and especially Matt Gaetz can be bugged and wire tapped based on the evidence in the public record. The GOP is essentially a party to a criminal conspiracy to over throw the US government through insurrection and sedition and a good case for it can be made before most judges.

He will probably do his time in another state. Most states have 'prisoner exchange' programs for LEO inmates.....I know several LEO inmates from other states that served their time in Cali prison...
Too bad it’s been national news for...weeks...months. I doubt he’ll find any place to really hide. Glad a jury finally did the right thing when it comes to police murdering people.

Wonder when Trump will weigh in?

Some Newsmax comments.

"The real racist turned this into White cop Black man, remember that! Who are the real racist? Media, BLM they are the hypocritical left"

"Why should we expect justice anymore? The election was rigged, I see the end of the USA in the very near future"

"Jury was basically threatened by blm and Mad Maxine. They were in fear for their lives. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a decision in 5 minutes and just held out a few more hours so as not to look too bad."

"this cop never stood a chance at a fair trial - the savages were all standing by to burn down everything they could - jurors were terrified"

we've got a nice cell about 70 ft underground here in lovely Canon City Colorado at the Supermax facility
That's the presidential suite, reserved for Donald once they get a lifetime's worth of sentence on him and the insurrection conviction. I'd like to see his supporters try to roll back the chain link gate at the supermax in a hail of gunfire, trying to spring Cheeto Jesus from his tomb and raise him from the dead.
