They’re a complete waste of money. Wouldn’t touch them with a 10 foot pole. They go ok for lettuce and other leafy greens but even than they aren’t great. If your going to go led spend the money and buy quality, if you want cheap stick to hps.
Over Winter I plan to start a few random/freebie seeds to see if they're worth working with. Cuts, for sure!
I used to grow with 2 400w hps years ago worked really well. Now I've got a viparspectra 600w only used it once but it worked well for only $199.
I would t touch a viparspectra light period. There’s more than a few horror stories of them catching on fire like the Mars hydro blurples. They also love to make false claims in their advertising and are just all round shot lights. You’d have been better off growing with hps or spending the money on quality leds like hlg/grow lights Australia boards, Samsung/bridglux strips or similar quality lights.
I think they save a bit of money on power and some of the claims are false a 600w actually puts out 430w but as for growing shit weed they definitely can grow good weed but probably don't yield as high as the high end lights u mentioned. As part of a cheap set-up for the home grower to grow for personal use i think they go ok. It was the older model that used to catch fire. Never used the Mars stuff before. Outdoors is my go to but a little indoor set-up is good fun in winter.
The viparspectra xs series uses all Samsung components too.
Seems that numerous brands are moving to the (lower end, perhaps) Samsung diodes.
They say they use Samsung diodes. I doubt it and if they actually do they’ll be older series diodes and low binned. The only way to know for sure is to sphere test them. China brands like vipar are notorious for swapping in lower grade components or using knockoff.
Quality isnt even slightly the same. You’d get better quality and more yeild from a cheaper hps. Light quality is directly related to cannabinoid and terpene content. For a start up grow you’d be better off with hps and upgrade to a quality led when you can afford them. Unless you live in Tasmania than just stick with hps and other hid lighting

I wouldn’t spend $12 on a Mars light let alone $1200. For that price I could buy 2 of the plug and play gla boards or almost 4 of their driverless kits and get far red and uv.
What do u use for heating in your grow room in winter?
I got 9mm at the farm. 30km gusts of wind from late evening and picking up now.
That should blow the excess moisture off the plants
My drivers and panels. In summer I put the drivers outside the tent/cupboard. If it gets cold enough that I’d need to run a heater I’d just run a hps.
Fire would be good. Mine will be in a shed where the overnight temp can hit 1deg in winter so I'm thinking I'll need to heat it a bit to keep it more stable
Go hps than. It’s not worth paying for heat and light when a hps provides both. Leds work best where head space and excess heat are the issues.
I made that mistake a couple of years ago before I had a clue & ended-up with a couple of Viparspectra lights that I just use for raising clones/seeds & maintaining a Mother plant - works fine for those applications, but definitely useless for flowering.

Hmm ok thanks mate, the lights i got are Viparspectra at the time they seemed like a good light for the coin. But was curious if a cheap blurple could help supplement with a broader spectrum and a few more PAR. I have the green P series light, but i have a smoke detector in the shed above the tent linked to my phone just in case.
