What went wrong, bleached leaves, curling, brown spots, curling, new grow

Hi everyone. Been reading lots, and learning.
I’m at day 18 for autos, and day 11 for photos. Some are going well but some not so. Hope you can help. I have not used nutrients yet.
What I would like to know in first week how much water should be given / soaking the media until runoff before transplant etc.. Then from that point how much water to feed.

5 issues I have noticed;
Yellow / bleached leaves on the autos
Brown spots / brown lines
Brown around the edges
Curling up
Stunted growth

See photos attached (autos from day 7 to 11) - some bleaching and brown spots (what are the causes for each) ?

Most reading points to overwatering, heat / light stress, wind/fan burn
- Lights were run 24 hours for first 2 weeks then cut back to 18/6 schedule
- Temps did get to 28 C / 82F for few days but now controlled at 26 C / 78F
- Humidity around 60-70%
- 70/30 coco/perlite mix (with about 10% vermiculite)
- 630watt LED at 25-30% light and 27” above top of canopy (was at 22”)
- Fans were pointed directly at the plants but are now for the last 5 days are blowing overhead instead
- Pots are all fabric pots that were just sat in saucers but now are sat on mesh metal pot stands within the saucer to help with drainage.
- Run off was around 250-300ppm when rinsing the media
- pH for them all is now around 5.8 to 6.1

More info on Autos
- Autos were in paper cups with drain holes that were then transplanted to 5 Gal (I read not to transplant shock and plant in the pots you aim to grow in from the start)

- They were under a 400watt LED and 18” away but after reading about bleaching causes I moved them to other LED light where there was more space. (will the bleaching go away or just not occur from this point on?)

- pH was on average on the low end 5.4 to 5.8 and each day I was trying to mist higher pH water to bring it up.


I have also attached pics of the photos which shows brown spots, curling - ideas?

I believe its really hard to over water in coco. I'm guessing your plants are hungry. I don't grow in coco, but ive read a little about it. One thing I hear repeated is "always water until runoff, and feed nutrients with every watering".

The same media is producing plants like these with no issues, so wondering why I have issues with the ones above.
Although there is some brown on the edges..?

Trying to figure out is it just the difference in pH that has given so many difference in these plants?

I think greentips has your answer. They look dry and hungry to me. Coco has no nutrients so the plants should be fed from the start, at least a light nutrient mix. It's best to fertigate to runoff daily and never give them water only. Check out cocoforcannabis.com, good site for coco.

Thanks for the reply. Fingertip depth and the media is moist. I watered until runoff one of them yesterday so will see what happens over next few days. I will check out the site and start reading up on water and nuts for coco. Why are some doing better than others? Should they not all have the same deficiency ?

not necessarily different strains like different things also I feed my plants from week 1 with rhizo and silica week 2 feeed or round about then. can u see how your plants are going going light green they are telling you they are hungry but because u haven't fed them so now that's why your deficiency have started also them leaves won't recover so don't be looking at them for improvement. these are auto and 3 weeks old be flowering soon you have defo fuked your yeild up mind because these should be flowering in a week or so but your photos will round no problem if I was you I would do seprate feed for your autos and your photos, autos are a little sensitive to food, topping and transplanting

I added about a tsp of rhizo when they were transplanted from the paper cups (seedlings were placed in coco pellet's) and then into a mini green house until they threw two true leaves then they went into paper cups with coco/perlite/vermiculite blend

The 4 autos I will dispose of them, and start again. Are they not supposed to be fed until week 3 (autos?)

No autos and photos both need nutrients immediately
Plants in soil generally don't need feed for 3 weeks because there is plenty in the soil
Coco, and other hydro medias contain no nutrients so the plant is starving after it eats the little nutrients it contains inside its seed shell

All plants are unique even ones that come from seed of the same strain = pheno's
The only way to have consistent plants that all like the same environment and feed is to run known clones

I'm running 60/40 clay pebs but I will be running perlite next run as the pebs swing my ph to much for month or so then it settles but I'm adjusting it more often than I want to so Guna see if the perlite works because I don't like how compact coco gets so don't like useing it solo. as for the rhizo I use canna rhizotonic 2ml per ltr silica I use atami concentrate silica 0.1ml per ltr iv only done a couple of auto crops im a photo grower so I'm no expert but from what iv read and my experience no u want to be feeding autos food from week 2 just the auto a little less food same amount of run off just less food so I would have autos on 0.5 and keep it there till they tell you there hungary and photos 0.6 -0.7 for photos and same rule applies so in veg you don't really to be going higher than 0.9 - 1.0ec imo but people are different again a little less for autos,canna nutes are fine A+B

Great thank you, and to everyone else also. That coco site you gave me is great ! so many questions answered there.
I will feed plants until run off with Cana A+B and get Ec to 0.9 or thereabouts.

Amnesia Haze: brown serrated leaves = Phosphorus or magnesium?

Girl Scout cookies: Brown spots = Magnesium, Iron or phosphorus ?

Girl Scout cookies 2: Brown spots = phosphorus ?

Bruce Banner: yellow/brown curled leaves = Potassium ? or heat stress

Gorilla Glue: curled down brown leaves = Potassium ?

You can ask all these questions and wait for answers, or u can go to the link provided(cocoforcannabis.com) and read up. I bet u will get to where u want faster with option 2. But I can maybe help with some of them.

Only in a few scenarios will leaves recover(dont remember which), so focus on new growth and if its still progressing.

In coco, never, NEVER feed plain water. Always have atleast calmag in the mix. U should have fed them with a weak mix from start.

They can show different deficiencies because of phenotype and also stress. There is more, but I know those 2 for sure.

just giving them feed will sort the job out mate

There small so no need for runoff,but do add more calmag.Just feed a circle around the plant every 3 days.In a week you'll have roots coming out the bottom.Then feed to runoff.

since reading cocoforcannabis, seems I really need to buffer the coco coir with cal/mag... May need to make up new batch of media and transplant in. Seems the ones doing better are the a already buffered media and the others not doing well are in a not buffered media. That with not feeding nutrients (reading wrong info on waiting until day day and allowing media to not be too overwatered) is where i went wrong..

Yes,feed to runoff.Remember runoff is to get rid of the last feed or any remaining salts.So you control this,feed low then mayde not so much.Feed high then more runoff.Dont let it get dry if ya do the salts are much harder to remove.So room temp water helps.

Simple fix on the buffer,add 2ml/l calmag to your food,be about 200ppm just in calmag.Your plants will be happy in 3 days.

Roots grow very quickly in coco,if there a week in those small pots yes runoff.Twice a day if ya wants quicker growth.
