About a year ago, I lucked out and found a bagseed in a quarter ounce on some dank Wonka Bars I bought from a dispensary. I started growing two years ago as a hobby. I had some less-than-impressive results growing Auto-flowering strains prior. This was my first Photoperiod grow.

The plant Vegged vigorously and seemed very happy during that phase. As time carried on, on I noticed the plant started sporting the occasional custer of pollen sacs in addition to female flowers (no nanners). I knew I had a hermie on my hands. But, I thought it could possibly be a Genetic Hermaphrodite as opposed to being caused by stress (especially being a bagseed). Having no other plants around, and salivating at the prospect of having a bunch of that good weed, I decided to boldly continue. I targeted and exterminated any male flowers I could find. But, they were never eradicated from the plant completely.

When I upgraded my lighting from a "600W" TopoLite Blurple (and some cobbled together supplemental gooseneck lights) to a Mars Hydro TSW 2000, everything went downhill from there in terms of vegetation. I think it was a combination of the new light being set too bright, and not enough nutrients during Flower. So, Wilma Wonka was pretty bald by the time the Reaper came around. But hey, it made for a cake fan leaf removal job. I did a dry trim because the humidity has been low here (~30%).

I decided to dry upstairs this time. The furnace really kicks on a lot this time of year. So, I chose a cooler location that will be dark when I flip the light switch:



There was a fan aimed slightly towards the ceiling on the other side of the drying rack to keep air moving. These are the temperature and humidity conditions upstairs:



I tried to take my time dry trimming the bud. It was a long ordeal for me (4 hours or so with a few breaks). The buds are very sticky and somewhat dense:



I did the dry trim 1-5-2021. I bagged a very modest 75.26g (2.68 oz) dry flower, and 6.37g of shake. The only exclusions from weigh-in are the stems, a few grams of bud I "sampled" during the drying process, and a golf ball-sized mass of LARF I have been toking on for the past few days:



I know they have a long ways to go to cure properly. However, I thought I would post a few close-up shots so you can see how the nugs look now:



The best part of all, (and I don't mean to brag) - This is some of the best stuff I have smoked in a while. It's super smooth, and hits hard. One moment I'm euphoric, the next I'm turned on. One moment I'm tripping, the next moment I'm couch locking. The thought it could get even more flavorful and potent as time goes on seems pretty crazy:

At first I thought you were joking. But, then I realized that could be a real strain. I have never heard of it before. But, I will research that. It does seem odd the potency of the original flower was so high for Wonka Bars. Thanks for the lead. I'd be surprised if a dispensary would mix that up, though.

What's the matter? I went back and forth with your suggestion yesterday. I know I didn't get into it with the original post. But now, I think it is probably actually Wonka Bars due to the garlic thing going on.

I decided to try my hand at making Cannabutter for the first time. I only had ~6.37g of trim to work with. So, I added about 1g of dried Wonka Bars flower to the blend for a little more whollop. I was truly "winging it" and didn't know I should decarboxylate my material before it was too late. I brought the mixture to a boil a few times (?) during the process, hoping that would miraculously compensate for my oversight. I haven't had the time to try it just yet, to see if it's any good:



Since this photo was taken, I have removed the orange debris in the upper-left corner. I'm not sure what it was.

The cannabutter I tried on a slice of toast produced a mild but steady stone and a bit of queasiness. Maybe these are reasonable expectations when making this from mostly trim. Regardless, I'll definitely do a decarb next time. I think it would likely produce a better result.

I grew wonka barz last round. I was super excited to grow it. It didnt make the cut though for me. ICC, sweeties and skittles this round. Rainbow belts, ICC and kush mints next.

I would like to give that Ice Cream Cake strain a whirl. I imagine it would be pretty resinous like Wedding Cake, but I am not sure. Do you ever make concentrates, like pressing rosin? I have found the Wonka Bars to yield nicely on that.

I can't help but wonder - Was there there anything in particular about the Wonka Bars you did not like?

Maybe the pheno I had. It was super hairy not a lot of crystal. Very dense though and yielded good though. Yea the ICC is nice! First time growing it, Good sized buds, some purple tinges to it. Very frosty as well. I got some 12 oz water bottle buds going under the maxisun 4000. You should add some epsom salt to your soil. That plant needs serious magnesium.

It sounds like you are talking about seedlings. I usually sprout mine out in the open. The advantages I can think of for bottles might be bonus humidity and a barrier from insects. Are there other upsides? I am considering trying it, but am not sure if it's worth the time/effort.

You should add some epsom salt to your soil. That plant needs serious magnesium.

I was paranoid my nutrients were causing the leaves to look like that, or the new grow light. Thus, I held back on feeding. Little did I realize, I was being far too conservative with my nutrients during flower. I really need to learn how to spot and identify deficiencies.

I haven't really dialed in my game yet (as they say) in regards to feeding. I know they would have gotten some Magnesium from the FoxFarms nutes. But, maybe an extra booster shot of epsom might be helpful in the future. I will keep that in mind, thank you.

Yea all that purple stem is big mag deficiency. I run led to and i battle it a little. Epsom salt will completely get rid of that purple stem, the monterey brand has a lot of sulfur in it to which is good. Make sure your using a lot of calcium to.

I've never used it before, but maybe I should buy some Cal-Mag to ground both birds with the same stone. I don't know how exactly I'd incorporate it into my feedings yet. But, I get the impression it's a staple for many growers. I appreciate the advice.

A Harvest Thread wouldn't be complete without trichome photos. That's the excuse I used to buy this toy from Amazon. In my defense, it was on sale for about $28 USD when I went for it:

The buds have been curing for about two and half weeks. I chose random flowers from the jar and gave it a whirl:



I am admittedly a little disappointed by the resolution of the photos the device can produce. But, I couldn't find anything more capable on the market that wasn't dramatically more expensive by comparison. Still, it's fascinating traveling through that alien world. It's almost a sensory overload.

The cheapo microscope was definitely worth the purchase, in my opinion. It should make assessing the ripeness of future plants a breeze.
