Fuck it just keeps getting better. Maybe this was a real coup, just pointing halfwits into the door. Produce a hostage situation, Trump puts the military in under Martial Law.

Outgoing Capitol Police chief accuses House, Senate security officials of hindering efforts to call in National Guard: WaPo
Outgoing Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund accused House and Senate security officials of hindering multiple efforts before and during the Capitol riots to call in the National Guard.

Sund told The Washington Post in an interview published Sunday night – his first since the events at the Capitol Wednesday – that he asked House and Senate security officials in the days before Congress was set to county the Electoral College votes to allow him to request the D.C. National Guard to be on standby in case troops were needed ahead of the pro-President Trump protests. But the Capitol Police chief, who was officially replaced as chief on Friday after his resignation, told the newspaper that the officials denied the request.

Sund reported that House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irving said he wasn’t comfortable with the “optics” of declaring an emergency ahead of the protests, and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Michael Stenger recommended Sund informally request the Guard to be ready for last Wednesday.
“We knew it would be bigger,” Sund told the Post. “We looked at the intelligence. We knew we would have large crowds, the potential for some violent altercations. I had nothing indicating we would have a large mob seize the Capitol.”

The outgoing chief said his request ahead of the riots ended up being the first of six times his calls for assistance would be denied or postponed. When the pro-Trump mob reached the Capitol at about 12:40 p.m., it took about 15 minutes for the west side perimeter to be breached, he said.
“If we would have had the National Guard we could have held them at bay longer, until more officers from our partner agencies could arrive,” he said.
Sund said at about 2:26 p.m., he requested the Pentagon provide backup on a conference call. But a top Army official said he couldn’t recommend Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy authorize deployment, saying “I don’t like the visual of the National Guard standing a police line with the Capitol in the background,” the Post reported, citing participants in the call.

The first National Guard personnel ended up arriving at 5:40 p.m., after four of the now five deaths amid the riots had already occurred.
The Post could not reach Irving for comment, and Stenger declined to comment, telling a reporter, “I really don’t want to talk about it.” Both officials have resigned after the riots amid pressure from lawmakers.

Pentagon officials have pointed to the fact that Capitol Police did not request D.C. National Guard ahead of the protest or ask for a riot contingency plan involving the Guard.

“We rely on Capitol Police and federal law enforcement to provide an assessment of the situation,” Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said last week, according to the Post. “And based on that assessment that they had, they believed they had sufficient personnel and did not make a request.”
But Sund warns that "if they don’t get their act together with physical security, it’s going to happen again,” potentially at President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

Most of 120 arrested or identified at Capitol riot were longtime Trump supporters: AP analysis
Most of 120 people who have been arrested in connection to or identified as being at the Capitol riot through photos and videos are longtime supporters of President Trump, an Associated Press analysis determined.
The Associated Press reviewed the social media posts, voter registrations, court files and other public records of 120 individuals suspected of being involved with the riots at the Capitol building and concluded that most backed the president.
The AP analysis comes after several conservatives, including lawmakers, have promoted without evidence the theory that groups like antifa and Black Lives Matter infiltrated the pro-Trump protests and were responsible for the riots in the Capitol.

The 120 people included Republican Party officials, GOP political donors, far-right militants, white supremacists and those who believe in QAnon, a theory that Satan-worshipping pedophiles control the government, the AP found.

Many of the rioters were found to have posted unfounded claims promoted by Trump that the election had been stolen or that widespread voter fraud contributed to President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. Several of the posts involved threats of violence against Democrats or Republicans considered not on the president’s side. Many posted either during or after Wednesday’s events, with several expressing pride in their actions, according to the AP.
At least 90 people have been arrested for charges ranging from curfew violations to felonies such as assaulting police officers, possessing illegal weapons and making death threats against Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). Records indicate that some of the rioters are accused of being heavily armed, including Lonnie Leroy Coffman and Cleveland Grover Meredith Jr., both supporters of the president.

Several were identified as QAnon supporters, including Doug Jensen, Tara Coleman and Jake Chansley, who calls himself the “QAnon Shaman.” Others were found to be associated with the Proud Boys, the far-right group that Trump instructed to "stand back and stand by" during the first presidential debate.
The AP analysis contradicts claims that Trump supporters weren't the ones that stormed the Capitol.

PGA announces plans to move 2022 championship from Trump property
The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of America announced on Sunday its plans to move the 2022 championship away from property owned by President Trump.

The PGA of America Board of Directors voted to end its contract to hold the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey, PGA of America President Jim Richerson said in a statement. The announcement comes in the days after the president’s supporters raided the Capitol.

“It’s become clear that conducting the PGA championship at Trump Bedminster would be detrimental to the PGA of America brand who would put at risk PGA’s ability to deliver on many programs and sustain the longevity of our mission,” Richerson said in a video.

Our board has thus made the decision to exercise our right to terminate the contract to hold the 2022 PGA championship at Trump Bedminster,” he continued. “It was a decision made to ensure PGA of America and PGA professionals can continue to lead and grow our great game for decades to come.”

PGA revoked Trump's golf club from hosting the championship next year as the president faces backlash for his role in encouraging his supporters to flock to D.C. and march on the Capitol in opposition to the Electoral College results.

OK, I would like to be there when Trump is given the request.
DC Mayor asks White House for emergency declaration funding for inauguration security
Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser on Sunday sent a letter to President Donald Trump asking for an emergency declaration in order to get additional funding for President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration as safety concerns mount following the US Capitol breach.
"In light of the attack on the Capitol and intelligence suggesting further violence is likely during the Inaugural period, my administration has reevaluated our preparedness posture for the Inauguration, including requesting the extension of DC National Guard support through January 24, 2021," Bowser wrote in her letter to the President.

"I have determined that the plans and resources previously assigned to the Inauguration are insufficient to establish a safe and secure environment as a direct result of the insurrectionist actions that occurred on January 6. Based on recent events and intelligence assessments, we must prepare for large groups of trained and armed extremists to come to Washington, DC."

Bowser's letter reflects the widespread safety concerns felt in the nation's capital and across the country in the wake of the violence at the US Capitol complex that left five dead, including an officer with the US Capitol Police.

Experts now warn that the calls for violence have only intensified ahead of Inauguration Day, when Biden will be sworn in as commander in chief.
"We are seeing ... chatter from these white supremacists, from these far-right extremists -- they feel emboldened in this moment," said Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, which tracks and counters hate. "We fully expect that this violence could actually get worse before it gets better."

"I will tell you that given the events of last week, that this inauguration preparation has to be different than any other inauguration with only 10 days to go," she explained during the interview.

Bowser ultimately assessed in her letter to Trump that despite the security assets the city has in place, "significant preparedness gaps remain that cannot be remedied without this emergency declaration and direct federal assistance."
In coordination with the federal government, she wrote, "we must take immediate, coordinated action to increase the security posture in the Nation's Capital to prevent an emergency situation during the Inauguration."
