If it was me and my son, I honestly would have just shown the girl the phone. She would have embarrassingly apologized, the hotel would have apologized and I would have had a night comped. . Not saying that’s the correct thing to do, just what I would have done. Father and child have absolutely every right to not show some crazy ass woman their phone. But I’d safe my kid and family the hassle.

No it won’t be the last time ( if this was one of those times I’m not sure) and I’ve personally been through it dozens of times. It’s life.
I keep going back to the crazy girl because the hotel is not on blast, it’s that girl who is on blast. Hotel will probably settle in the 100k range and the girl might kill herself.

I'm guessing you didn't really open up the files and try to understand what I was saying. After all, landlords are a dismissive lot. You haven't listened one bit today.
Did you know that Asians are half as likely to be stopped and searched than white people?
Did you know that Black people are nearly twice as likely to be stopped and searched than white people?
And yet, the rates of police actually finding anything are about the same for all three groups. Asians less so but not by much.
The study shows that there is a problem with bias in this country. We may generalize those findings to judge SoHo Karen's motives. Common sense, after all.

It is easy to say how you would ideally react in a situation, but you never know what you may feel in the heat of the moment.
The girl put herself on blast. Hopefully she gets some court appointed counseling.

I agree with you that the tendency to threaten and harass over the internet is a real problem today. There are plenty of examples of this. Why are you triggering on this one event and not others? What about the computer tech who got on some loonies' hit lists because they baselessly accused him of election fraud in Georgia?
I'm guessing with confidence that the black family who were harmed by SoHo Karen is getting same kind of threats too. Why aren't you wailing for them?

Did you know I come from a country where racial profiling is legal and that means I’ve been stopped, searched and stripped search dozens of times because of the way I look? See, I get it, I’m not a fan of it. If I see prove that she is a racist or somehow profiled him I’ll change my mind. But being aware of the injustice and data doesn’t mean that sometimes a duck isn’t just a duck. Maybe I’m using that expression wrong?
I’ve been in similar situations and that is how I’ve always reacted but you never know.
she did call in and claimed to be a victim of assault and some bs. Also sounds like she’s an alcoholic and I think that may be a factor. She obviously needs help of one form or another.

Some of the shit I hear reported about bias in policing in Japan is pretty fucked up too, now that you mention it. But that's neither here nor there. We are in the US and our standards are different than Japan.

Im sure she likely was, almost 20% of women report being sexually assaulted. It sucks, she defiantly has issues that she is dealing with and like I said I hope she gets a court appointed counselor.
I know if I am caught off guard I react poorly to people acting like assholes.

I went to international school (private English school) in Yokohama, and college in Boston but most of my life in Tokyo. So my experience is completely different. When I see Asian guys crying about not being able to date I just think, like you realize, the majority of women in the world are Asian right?

I was lucky enough to get my name and photograph put in the local rag. Assault and battery with the dangerous weapon a 2x4. The case was dismissed after I spent about $2,500 in attorneys fees but no one will ever be made aware of that. It trashed my relatively good name and reputation and I didn't really didn't even hit him that hard. In any event there was absolutely zero evidence but I'm stuck with that reputation because it was a slow news day. I liken it to the woman who accuses a man of rape and then rescinds the accusation a week after he has made the paper and everyone including his wife and family as well as friends and employers will never see a retraction and so the poor bastard is scarred for life. Personally I think the woman should spend time in jail and not just be able to walk away. Your life can be destroyed permanently unless you're willing to pack up and leave the state. An accusation is almost as powerful as a conviction. I hope this girl who accused the black kid of having her phone is able to recover and be a productive citizen and realize the depth of the racism problem. Then again who knows.

The police have no right to search you regardless of your color if the exception of a couple locales. They also have no right to ID you without having reasonable cause to believe you have committed or intend to commit a crime. It boils down to the Constitution not being upheld and people not defending their rights or unable to financially afford an attorney to defend them. I have pissed off the police more than once by declining to show them an ID or provide them with information they are not entitled to. Part of the reason for all of these unconstitutional Acts is that the even the police are not aware of them and have not been trained accordingly. I would also add that most of them are just a bunch of bullies who expect people to kowtow to them.
I don't know, going to jail for that? But then again it's her third time in a year getting into trouble and she is showing a history so maybe she will be off to jail, or at least rehab. I see worst shit on a daily basis though. Not sure what kind of glass bubble people live in where this = jail by itself. I mean I have seen full grown men watching kids play football on TV go and tackle them, I wonder if they were sent to jail.
