Yields seem low

I totally appreciate it! I'm definitely still not entirely sure what the issue is. I keep coming back to the fact that my root structure really isn't where I think it should be and that that may be a big piece of this. Thinking that overwatering in veg is the culprit, but have to experiment and see. Something, though, is messing with my yield. At this point, my strongest leads seem to be a combination of too much water in veg and not enough light in flower - I had 5 plants running under the cmh for too long, and now have the added 600w led in there that I hope will make a difference.

Agreed - this thread has definitely given me plenty to think about and run down, so I'm thankful for everyone's input. I also agree that I don't think it was a nitrogen toxicity issue. If it was that, I'd expect to see the same with other plants, and I didn't.

I agree that it sounds like I've been underwatering based on how you handle it, but my plants aren't showing signs of being thirsty except for a low yield and not a lot of root growth. I harvested another plant that I had revegged under the exact same conditions essentially (except that the reveg had had a longer veg period), and the reveg was able to put out significantly more - over 2 ounces, so I'm not sure if it was under- or over-watering at this point. Not saying your take is incorrect, just that it doesn't appear to be really clear cut because my veg plants all look really happy (pic of the veg space attached).

I gave water to the ladies today - I'm going to let them dry out completely so I can get a good baseline, and then start giving a half gallon per pot evert 3 days or so. I will also be making sure to water in slowly, so it doesn't leak through the pot. Going to be adding in some root booster as well.
 
have you considered switching from soil to soilless medium? you might lose the organic aspect (idk how to run organic soil-less) however its another way to improve yield, hempy buckets are super easy to design and almost impossible to over water once the plants are established, great for nervous gardeners who need to tend to their plants daily (mine take days to dry but I can flush my res when ever and just refill fresh nutrients)

maybe start with 1 and see how you like it

those look hungry for magnesium. the mars makes mine mag hungry , try 1gram per gallon of epsom salts

Interesting - I'm not against soil-less mediums. Would you suggest something like what's laid out here? Looks like it would be automated which is nice...

I would not go the coco way , I suggest perlite + vermiculite and hand watering, all you need is a 3 or 5 gal bucket and a way to cut a small hole, we have a long hempy thread here on riu
 
ph 5.8 and use hydro nutrients, ive yet to see anyone use organic nutrients because of possible rot or disease, I run a " sterile " drain to waste system , water from top and let it drain to a tub or catch tray

perlite needs daily watering in the first few weeks but then when the roots hit the rez at the bottom they explode. the plant drinks all its water from their and you can refresh it whenever you wish
 
I add h202 to my water to prevent algae growth and keep the system clean, you don't need an air stone because your refreshing things daily with new water, Google * hempy 100 perlite * here's another one that defies the 2 per container rule

If everything in your garden is dialed in and your not getting the yields you like then its either co2 deprivation or not enough light. There is no other product or factor that will give you larger buds than more light & co2.

Everyone trying to argue that is arguing scientific and horticultural facts.

Nice! I like the sounds of this method - seems like more control over the system. I'll google the setup you mentioned and see if it makes sense for what I'm doing.

UC Roots is the best product to prevent disease. You can pair it with h2o2 (hydrogen peroxide) for added protection & benefit. h2o2 is liquid oxygen, just note it turns back to h2o (water) quite quickly when exposed to open air & light.

Would light or CO2 (or lack thereof) be a cause for diminished root growth? I'm seeing way less root development than I think I should be. Don't have pictures of root balls, but the one that had well developed roots yielded over 2 ounces and the ones that did not have well developed roots were the ones that seemed to be under-yielding.

The strongest leads that I have so far are that my problems with yield are due in part to slow root growth due to poor watering cycles and practices and not enough light. I've added a 600w BD LED (I know not ideal, but it's what I have available now) and I am taking a hard reset on my watering SOPs be letting everything dry out for the next few days and giving each pot just under 1/2 gal of water with root booster per pot. every 3-4 days or so.

I'm going to be changing things one at a time - don't want to over do it.
