So many LED choices

Anything with Samsung lm301H diodes and spectrum wise lh351h diodes with appropriate nm wavelength.

Looks intimidating at first but eventually find out you could just make your own set ups and save $100s of dollars.

Like HLG saber 100 is basically 2x Samsung Horticulture L2 linear strips combined and charge $70 more for just the strips. The boards and driver together cost $120 and just the hlg saber without drive is $135.

Spider Farmer can be daisy chained ( if you have current model ) so upscaling is built in. I run HLG and am testing a spider for spider farmer ( they offered SF1000 ) and am running 4 plants under that little board. Kind of like the damn thing.

HLG has many board kits and products.
HLG 225 ( CMH equiv ) is a tank of a light too.

They asked me to test their modules but declined. Rather work with a more top of line company. Decent for cheap lights though.

I like. Is it easy to build? I'm not an idiot but electrical and wiring is not my forte at alI. I budgeted 500$ I can expand a little, work decided to kick us a 700$ bonus covid check; doesn't even include my Xmas bonus yet lol.

Hey bud, I am also in Ontario. So let's get into a few details. Your current space is 16 square feet. With LED you really want 35 to 50 watts of good led per square foot. Your SF light is only 200 watts. If you add the HLG you will be at 520 watts total which is much closer to the min 560 you would want. That would give you 32.5 watts per square foot so I think it is a pretty good fit. The diy of those HLG lights is super simple. No need for previous experience or electrical knowledge, if you can turn a screw you have enough knowledge to assemble them. Just watch the video. If you email HLG Canada asking for a discount code they should email you a code for 10% off. Now there are other ways to go but this would be a good fit as far as I am concerned. I would not worry about mounting the driver outside the tent until you see what heat you get. I run an HLG 600 in my 4x4 and my plants love it. Not saying other lights won't work perfectly fine but I do like the HLG's personally.

So I'm on the hunt for another light.
I'm currently in a 4x4 with a Spider Farmer S2000. Very happy with the performance, but time to upgrade-add. I have about 500$ Canadian I can drop.
I have never done HPS and the wife won't allow it, so LED is the only way to go.
I grow in my basement in Southern Ontario, so we get nice and cold all winter. Happy for any input

Pretty sure you have to go with the 650 Meijiu strip lights. Like the ones used in the shit house grow in the grow journal section. The whole world is going that route. You have no other choices friend. He bought 2 for like 1200.00 I think. Could be the best light on market, just not sure yet.

Honestly I don't have one issue with SF lights. I saw your testing and it looks like it is going well. I just think he could use a bit more power out of the gate and if you can buy more powerful now it will save some upgrading later. But as I say, I really don't have any negativity towards the SF lights, they seem to be well built and do the job.

This I do have available. But this doesn't increase my overall wattage from the light itself right? They only have the limitations of the specs of the light?

Just got into this last year with it being legalized in Canada; I'm glad I didn't start with wasting money on those shitty blurbles I see everywhere. I'm just growing smoke for me and the wife, maybe throw some at the boys once in a while; don't need top grade bud as much as I'd LOVE to grow it

Luckily at least once you are on 12/12 you can do it all off peak but you have to run on 7pm to 7am. That cuts out time you can spend in the tent but is actually helpful since the colder hours overnight get heat from the lights. The hit is not too bad, during veg my light is running at 300 watts and when I bump it to full power for flower I can do it off peak. Something to keep in mind.

LOL, have to? No the whole world is not going the way of buying lights directly from China through Alibaba. Now don't get me wrong, Meijiu makes great lights, not dissing them. Just not the only way to go by far. Many many good options out there these days. I have to agree though, the shit show definitely demonstrates what can be done with those lights and they do an impressive job.
