Yep, I'm thinking the same thing. Trump leads through fear, not love and he can't menace anybody while in isolation in the hospital. So he has to get out and put his angry fat infected mug in people's faces and bully them. They don't want to release him, but Donald is desperate and doesn't like hospitals, he's a control freak. He is sick and if it wasn't for the special treatment he'd be on a ventilator now and we'd be on a death watch. He is obviously feeling better, the antiviral treatments are doing the job, but he is essentially a lab rat and no doctor in their right mind would let him out for a week at least, but Donald is president and calls the shots.
Not to worry Captain, he has covid, there is no other logical conclusion and it is fucking up Donald very badly, he is desperate to get back on the campaign trail, he's 15 points behind Joe now and that doesn't even include this latest fiasco, just post debate. Polls indicate he is getting no sympathy from the public, his own irresponsible actions brought it on. It is bringing covid front and center and Donald wanted to distract from that, this will hurt him further, I wouldn't be surprised to see his support go as low as 35%, the spell appears to be breaking for some.
As a national leader, he fell into the same trap leaders have been falling into since there were leaders. He confuses violence with power. The former is a means to coerce. The latter is available to leaders that are empowered by a group. Trump has never actually held power. For example, he was never empowered by the people of this country to do what he did in Portland this July. Because he abuses the power we've given him, we plan to remove him peacefully from the office of President in November. We are the power but until he leaves office, he has the ability to do much harm through violence. Trump has the means to take violent actions, as he has done in Portland. Or in countless other jurisdictions where ICE has been deployed to cause fear in Hispanic communities. Or in areas of the southeast, where white supremacists are still able to murder Black people without concern for the law. Or in cities where fascists have taken root in their police departments.
Trump is trying to take power through use of violence and just might succeed. As with ancient Rome's Praetorian Guard, who were used by Rome's Emperors to beat Rome's civilians into submission, our modern Praetorian Guard -- the Police and white supremacist groups like Proud Boys -- are agents of violence at the disposal of this Tyrant Trump. The tyrant is calling on them to beat the crowds into submission while he buys off the most wealthy with promises of even more wealth.
Right in the middle of his most audacious power play, he gets Covid-19 and is isolated from his fearful minions.
OK, so maybe this is overwrought and I don't believe all of it myself but it makes a good story. I also think it's partly true.
Here is an article that discusses parallels between Rome's Praetorian Guard and the US police:
