Wow awesome advice yeah I'll grab a 600w hps and I'll start looking into decent cool tube just know in qld never stays cool long and yeah I'm going to get a bigger tent when we move and use this one as a veg tent for a mother well that's the plan how many how bulbs should I get how often do they blow
No worries mate, cool tubes do filter out a bit of light but theyre worth it with how much easier it makes controlling room temps. Ive never had a bulb blow but i may be lucky

I run 715 watts in my 800x800 during flowering.

have a look at the pac foods vs305, they’re a great vac sealer. A little bit pricey though.

A 600w will be mint in a 800x800 anyway, will be all the light you need, only thing i see being a problem is the height youll only have a max of like 1300 height then minus pot height, be best to stick to indicas in that tent sativas will grow to tall and get fried. If heat becomes a problem which it most surely will in summer i suggest getting a cool tube to use during summer and normal shade during winter.
those heights just scream scrog. Set a net, veg the net, flip the net and add more for support as needed through stretch and flower

If driving them at the actual 600w and keeping them bulb clean and free of finger prints, almost never. Most people replace them each flower or 6 month ish because they do start to burn out and loose spectrum.

it’s more oils and shit on the bulb that causes them to pop. Super lumens just ruins the spectral output of the bulb for a few extra watts. the efficiency loss on the bulbs are only something like 5% over 1-2 years so if your spending the $$ on quality bulbs (where your paying for spectrum) your not really getting the most out of the bulbs.

True i notice new bulbs are significantly brighter once i replace them im not buying any fancy bulbs just lucagrows. Deffinatly stand by super lumen setting on the last run with the bulbs always get more yield not heeps but more. And 5% on 10lb is half a lb

It’s not 5% less light. It’s a 5% loss of spectrum or more correctly a spectrual shift. Also 5% light gain/loss doesn’t equate to 5% weight gain/loss. On 1-2 lights you wouldn’t even notice the yeild difference but you might on 10+ lights.

Long story short most of the degradation of hps bulbs are the spectrum output. The amount of light produced does decrease but it takes 2-3 years not 2-3 grows.

Yeah youre right. But all im stating is my real world observations of: the bulbs are deffinatly brighter brand new than they are after 9-10months use (3 grows) and that the super lumen setting is a good tool to use on the last grow with the particular bulb.

And just to touch on the 5% i agree i made a mistake thinking it correlates that way, but could 5% light loss not equal 5% less weight because the light is the means of energy for plants, provided that everything else in the grow is identical 5% less light mean the plants recieve 5% less energy? I get 1.4gpw if i use 1000w i get 1400g if i use 5% less light i would get 1330g at 950w?

Edit: just realizing that 5% light loss does not mean 5% watt loss    also found this picT8_MH_HPS_LumenChart.png

you pretty much corrected yourself. As you can see from the graph the loss also levels off so becomes even less of an issue. It’s only really an issue if you’ve got a commercial setup with 10-50 lights where the small (almost unmeasurable) loss per light becomes more noticeable
