Is Gay Marriage Really That Big Deal?

Wikid, the only problem I see with your post is that part of comprehension is the ability to define words. If you don't understand what a word means, then how do you possibly know that you are using it correctly?
..you saw this too?

wizard of oz: They have one thing you haven't got: a diploma. Therefore, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Universitartus Committiartum E Pluribus Unum, I hereby confer upon you the honorary degree of ThD.
scarecrow: ThD?
wizard of oz: That's... Doctor of Thinkology.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain

As far as the comments about dumbing down one's comments. I think that that statement represents nothing more than the typical pandering found in politicians and prostitutes when they need to get their ideas and propositions across.

No, I don't think you are as nearly as intelligent as you are making yourself out to be, because if you were there would be no need for me to explain to you that vocabulary is more than a matter of knowing a collection of words, but extends to being able to use them in such a way to communicate in such a manner that your words leave no doubt as to what the point you are trying to make is, and that comprehension includes knowing the definition of a word.

It does know good to say that a person is an ignoramus if you do not know what the word means. Nor does it do any good to say yob tvoyu maht if you do not understand what it means. No, knowledge of the definitions of words is key to being able to boast of one's vocabulary.

i understood her post better than yours. lol :bigjoint:

i'm one of the dumb ones so that means a lot. :peace::peace:

I'm not here to impress any one, unlike our politicians I don't feel the overwhelming desire to pander for the vote of the lowest common denominator.

Oh man.. :(
Still no answer on the whole take it up the ass comment, but whatever.
I did answer you.
There's one thing I really don't get about you and Dave. You both obviously possess impressive vocabularies (or keep a thesaurus handy ) but you both say you won't/can't "dumb it down."
I generally won't unless I'm asked. What I post is pretty much as it comes out of my head.
I have an extensive vocabulary myself. English has always been my best subject;, reading, writing...I consider myself well spoken and good with words.

One of the biggest advantages of having such a large vocabulary is that I can communicate more effectively with people, no matter what their level of comprehension. The more words I know, the more options I have to explain things, so that I know they can understand me.

I will admit I'm not very good at defining words. I have a hard time giving EXACT definitions sometimes. But I can almost always come up with a synonym or antonym that will better help the person understand my meaning.

So I really don't get the idea that you both are so well versed, but have a hard time dumbing it down. One of the advantages of having a better handle on the language is that you have more options, more ways to express yourself.
For me it's got to do with how I think, literally, what words and terms and symbols that are used in my thinking. If you change the how of it, you're changing an inherent part of who and what I am. Then, there's the whole thing of trying to find a whole bunch of words to explain this one thing, this once concept, that a single word says. Either way, it is a difficulty I have, trying to find other words for what I'm trying to say, and if people don't like it, fuck 'em. My life goes on.
That's a good point. If I received an infraction, I wouldn't bitch about it in the thread. I dunno, I just don't think it's anyone else's business
I will no longer communicate in private with the person who gave me the infraction after they, at least twice, publicly accused me of stalking and harassment. Also, they publicly edited my post, which makes the thing public in and of itself. Or did you not notice who edited my post? I will NOT just roll over and take it, nor will I be dictated to as though I'm a child. I will not simply accept increasing rudeness from anyone, whether in public or private, without speaking out against it and questioning it. Because I will not communicate the question privately due to the public accusations, I can only pose my question publicly.

I still think that it's a rather fine point, so fine as to make posting on this forum for anyone very difficult. Fortunately for (most) everyone, they won't have to watch their words so closely as I.

You know what's amusing, is that she thanked me for suggesting the ignore feature, but doesn't seem to be using it.

I personaly have no issue with anyone whos gay.
It's as gross as two uglys or fatties displaying their love.:-P

Don't know why some feel they own the patent on marriage?
How can a state enforce such a sexist practice?
(I can get fired from my job for the telling of a gay joke)

Is there not more then one form for christian marriage already?:polygamy?
Marriage is a social, religious, spiritual, or legal union of human individuals.
Marriage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The reasons givin from the right are sooooo ludicrous.
I herd today a few new reasons, schools will have to rewrite books, churches will get sued for hate speech???
Have to say it's better then the argument of 'why not a man and a animal then.'
Heres a few more reasons, i thought was funny.

12 Reasons | Gator Gay-Straight Alliance
  1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control are not natural.
  2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people cannot get legally married because the world needs more children.
  3. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children because straight parents only raise straight children.
  4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful, since Britney Spears's 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.
  5. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and it hasn't changed at all: women are property, Blacks can't marry Whites, and divorce is illegal.
  6. Gay marriage should be decided by the people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of minorities.
  7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are always imposed on the entire country. That's why we only have one religion in America.
  8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people makes you tall.
  9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage license.
  10. Children can never succeed without both male and female role models at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
  11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to cars or longer lifespans.
  12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages will for gays & lesbians
In a perfect society we would all just get along. Its one more battle that has to be fought on the road to a better world
