That soil looks really compact. Looks like clay or sand. Definitely need a better medium or at least add perlite or something. Need oxygen for healthy roots! I recommend fabric pots with coco/perlite.

if you cant get a better soil, perlite will help. it keeps the soil from compacting and lets your roots grow more freely.

Absolutely. That doesn't even look like soil. It looks like beach or play sand to me.

Or at least add some kind of pebble/perlite in it to help with drainage. I tried growing and ultimately wasted time growing in clay.

So i added some gravel and removed 1/4of the soil as it was compressed, will that be enough ?

Not trying to be a jerk but that seedling has no chance without proper soil.

Absolutely. That doesn't even look like soil. It looks like beach or play sand to me.

It actually looks like what I have outside minus some rocks. Turns into concrete as it dries.
You need to either use better soil or add some perlite to promote drainage.
