My plants are on their 4 week of veg today and they stink like there isn’t even a filter on, ive got the small vent open at the bottom of my 60cm x 60cm x 140cm tent, the filter is hooked up all correctly and it’s brand new and never been used before. I don’t know what to do

What rating is your fan for CFM or m3/h?

what rating is your filter CFM or m3/h?

what’s your humidity if your room in RH?

I have a small 6” clip on fan on the lowest setting blowing above the plants, the humidity stays around 45 - 60%

I carbon filter needs to be attached to a fan like this and blowing away from your grow room.

mine vents into my well ventilated attic space.943BA592-6F48-4843-B8B9-B3B618BECCA9.jpeg

It came in a grow kit, it’s my first grow so I don’t really know much, is there anything I can do do help the smell? It isn’t too bad but it’s noticeable

Yes get a fan that actually is going to work for your needs.
Unfortunately most “kits” come with inadequate fans for the tent.

Agree. You need a proper fan. What you have isn't going to work...at all.

Also: Those are not in flower yet....how are they smelling already?
The smell is quite weak, but if I don’t have my window open it builds up over time, I’m on a budget and I’m not sure on a good cheap inline fan to get.

...and a follow-up question: Are you sure the fan is pointing the right way? I thought the sticker was always on the intake side of a PC fan.

It’s definitely the right way round, there is negative pressure in the tent (the walls of the tent suck inwards) and it’s blowing air out of the tent via the in line fan

agreed-- If the fan is sucking from the filter you have set it up properly. You should be able to put your hand in front of the fan and feel a breeze.

I would use a fan with a higher speed, because new air is something plants need. I would get a fan rated for around 150-200 CFM.
A low end brand is vivosun, a high end is fantech. Be aware these fans are pretty loud.

Once upgrading your exhaust you could use the old fan as an active intake fan as well.

How humid is your room? Active charcoal hates humidity.

Okay thank you so much I’ll go have a look now

I’ll bet the power of the fan is such that it’s pulling across the filter too slowly.

you’ll need to know your filters CFM rating and make sure you new fan if you buy one is rated just under it in CFM etc.
