Third seedling try

I feel for you bro, 3rd times a charm!!!! We're all rooting for this one
They broke my heart! and this is even not my first grow, on the first one I got 3 plant from seed to harvest, 190 Gram.
Wonder what I fucked up this time.

Try Jiffy on it's own.
The second seedling was with Jiffy only. Was Ok, then the roots started to pop, I moved into to soil, and the problem started....

No fertilizer unless a person is using Coco...most plants have enough sugars to support themselves until first leaf..
I'm really curious as to what is going wrong here...as this is not that difficult at this stage...

Perhaps skip the cubes and put the seed directly in ordinary potting soil...Those different mediums are likely to create an issue with absorbing excessive moisture if the plant is not big enough ..those cubes will just hold moisture like a dense sponge and roots will rot...

Best of luck
I am very curious too!
In my first grow everything went smooth.

The thing is the the second seedling is still in the tent, the roost are getting bigger and getting out of the pot holes, but the plant is almost dead.
Very strange.

Look here to see update photo:

First seedling was in soil only, and didn't make it, so I thought to go with jiffy.
This kind of jiffy is made from coco btw. It's drying faster than the soil.

I never watered it, its only from the first soil before planting the seed.
This time with the smallest pot possible to prevent errors.

I have root juice from biobizz, also RO water and ph down.

So u suggest just 2 centiliters with a stem and not to fully water to get runoff water out the bottom? do I get it right?

Hmm the jiffy is coco, I did not know that. Is it pre rinsed/ did you rinse it before planting? That's supposed to be neccesary with coco. Coco needs to stay wet too they say, I guess that's true for a seedling too but I don't know maybe you limit it. You say you only watered at the start. But later you say you sprayed it, so it depends how much. I'm only guessing what to do now. What is the soil you put around the jiffy? This is a little crazy, but I say poke the jiffy's coco from the top a few times through with a tooth pick. Water plain water with just a touch of CaMg because it's coco. If no CaMg then just epsom salt which is Mg. Coco needs ++ ions like Ca and Mg but I'm guessing for a seedling because seedlings don't need nutes but coco does. My guess is small amounts daily just on the jiffy and even half a shot glass will probably run off if you poke it. Good luck.

You're not supposed to water Jiffy Pellets, or add any nutrients.
All you add is the dry seed of your choice.
The initial soaking in water provides all that is required for germination.

Putting it in soil destroys the whole idea of them.

I looked at their website they do have a pellet made from coco but the original is pete. So is it the same treatment? I don't know and don't see them posting insturctions. It's German label the blue engel. Well that's better then the weise engel. Jeez

All Jiffy pellets are used in the same way.
Doesn't matter what they're made from, they're self contained packages designed from germinating seeds.
I buy the cheapest I can get from China at $1 for 10 pellets (inc post).

I'm not so sure making them with coco was such a great idea if they don't specify they are rinsed. They advertise them as eco friendly, but not as 'better'. I mean what the fuck? Me I'm not fond of jiffy pellets, but jiffy pots are ok.

Just had a look, very nice!
So you water from the bottom from the beginning?
Throughout my grow i try to alternate watering. I'll put my 3 gallon grow bag in a plastic tray and pour the water in the tray, let it soak up from the bottom. Next watering I water normal through the topsoil.

Seems to work for me and i think the root mass is thicker and stronger when i harvest.

Sorry you are struggling with the seedlings. Once you figure it out, it becomes a breeze. Hang in there! :eyesmoke:

Thanks! I start out with the spray bottle, like I said, after about the 3rd node or when plant is drying out after only say 12 hours and your spraying twice a day, it's time to start watering..bottom up worked well for me, I use to be an overwaterer, but this method made things way easier...tip...get used to what your pot feels like dry and use that to know when water is needed

Simply put seed in a solo with a mild aerated soil mix . Dampen slightly and cover . Couple days later ... germed seed.
Seedlings also need warm to activate properly. Very little watering. Solo will later be a transplantable plug.

Ok, looking good so far, I am only spraying some water on the surface very carefully.

The thing is, I am with quantum board 150W in the tent of 60 X60 and its getting warm this days..

Yesterday it went up to 29 Celsius so I turn on the air condition but this is a problem cause the tent is in the bed room and its still cold for air condition...

I have a vent, 2 small ventilators & a S&P TD-SILENT 160.

Should I switch to another light source until she grows?

It just seems like you are doing to much at the early stages and its not helping them. I heard someone once say killing them with kindness. Been following the threads you have recently.

Not sure how much you are watering at the early stage but once jiffy is saturated should be good to go without any more water or nutes until the first true leaves appear and as somebody said in this thread, shouldn't need to pot until the root has appeared out the bottom of the jiffy which is around when the first leaves will appear. As I believe the jiffy pellets are meant to be breathable, you should not have surrounded them with soil. I plan on using them next grow and going into progressively bigger pots to promote good roots.

I am still learning man so listen to the other members and I wish you the best of luck this time round. I reckon its all sort of frustrating that you have had a successful grow before and then this is happening. Last pic looks good though and will give a follow to see how you progress

Also you were asking about watering until run off, don't know if this is what you have been doing but I didn't start doing that in my coco/perlite until I had removed them from their seedling container into my fabric pots. I was feeding from the bottom during seedling in my propagator but now that I mention that I think I responded to your last thread about the second seedling with similar information including a link.

Looks the same as mine (seed in ground last Thursday, popped up Saturday evening ....... 8 days).
You've got nothing to worry about ........
white widow.jpg

I've got the same heat problems as you ......... running with the grow box open temps are 30c during the afternoon.
Do I move downstairs under the stairs (28c) or do I air condition the bedroom?
It's only gonna get hotter!

I am thinking about switching to a small lamp for the first month, something like this:

Then, only air condition, I have no choice, hot country and summer is coming.
Its more problematic now cause its too cold air conditioning.
Actually its easier on summer cause its working anyway all the time.

Not sure there bud, there is no information on power draw or even ppfd readings of any kind. I have looked at some of those lights on amazon UK but even though those have power draw and some PPFD numbers I'm still a bit sceptical. There is no price either so hard to compare with other normal LED bulbs that have a higher power draw than standard household LED's

They have one in the hydro shop that have a Mint herbal plant growing under it, and it looks very good.
It's a fine lamp for seedling stage, not sure the exact firm, but the one that they have at the store is good.
Just for the first 3-4 weeks.

Hey man, at the end of the day, you have got to do you. I'm not even sure you were looking for advice looking back at your post.

I know that all plants are different and require different light levels, such as leafy greens require less light than fruiting plants, but not sure if you can compare the light required to grow a mint plant with the light needed to grow cannabis in seedling and veg.

I'm not even there yet with my grow but your 150W led should do you fine. Start at say 2 feet above plants and if they are stretching too much lower the lights. I have a 115W blurple that's 14 inches above my plants. It was 12 inches but one of the plants leaves were dry and thin, so raised the light and moved it away from the heat source and the leaves thickened. Check the link under my post to see pictures if you want.

IMO I wouldn't waste money on a separate light if you are using the same area to grow in, maybe if you were using a different area to get your plant through seedling. But can't really give any advice without really knowing the specs of the light, if it is advice you were looking for.
