Well to be honest i am a semi-amatuer/expert on leds and i have been growing and toking for a very long time.
I researched leds for a long time and even built plans for boards.
I analyse data and in this case you will find that if you buy those leds your results will be poor.
Those 5 watt power star leds were the only leds that imo and in my knowledge and calculations could compete with hps systems in terms of yield and quality.
I strive to get the maximum yields from lower amounts of lighting and have achieved this and created all sorts of things in the past and will continue to do so in the future using only a 400 watt hps.
Unless you use the leds that i stated your grow will never compare to a hps grow.
If you do the math you will find that its all about the lumens,wavelengths and viewable angles and then finally the fact that low powered leds cannot penetrate canopys.

My ass was handed to me? When? When you realized its true that LED systems are a waste of money? Or when I asked you to show your own proof that LED systems work (rather than some dudes pictures, which could have been grown under a 400w HPS the whole time)
If you have no proof for yourself... I don't see how you can defend LED systems any more than I can "bash" them...
Oh wait, because some guy took pictures of a plant and said he grew it under a flash light...

Perhaps it's because I have to filter 90% of the nonsense you spew into the message box, but I haven't seen you say anything about this strange coincidence that you can't produce your own evidence of how awesome your LED grow is...

to anyone who's interested, honestly you will most likely regret purchasing any LED grow system unless you're wealthy enough to spend the $9,000 mentioned in previous posts... stick to an affordable HPS system that is tried and true, and has been proven for years and years and years...
honestly, if it was a worthwhile method of growing, I would acknowledge it as such... but so far I've seen people just getting burned by LED systems, and would feel like shit if I invested my own money in some shitty product that didn't produce what I thought it would... am I fucked up for trying to prevent more people from getting burned?
It's the job of experienced individuals to protect those who lack knowledge or experience... and that's what I'm doing...
I would rather be an honest dick head, than a shoddy con man who makes claims he cannot back up for himself.

Well loki i have to commend you on your detailed threads and innovative tote ideas but i also have to acknowledge the fact that the only images i actually saw of your plants were awful.
This plant is suffering from a lack of "usable" light wavelengths.
Surely you must concede that this plant looks like shit?
But seriously though your ideas are great.
I can see that you have tried to get away with using low powered leds in a confined space but as you must have noticed this is not how it works even though it may seem like it should.
Light is a funny old thing.
Anyway as i said before you made an excellent thread with some excellent ideas but it is still flawed.
Obviously with the leds that i stated to use you could not have them in those boxes or so near the plants and you would have to vent them and cool them etc..
Anyway dont give up,why dont you try experimenting with some of the leds that i suggested and see the difference for yourself.

see... a 400w is on the smaller end of the list, and this guy still produces large quantities of what is going to produce some excellent smoke..Also here is one of my plants using only a 400 watt hps and a design of mine called an airbasket.
Colas are 3 foot tall,38 days into flowering

I think the bottom line here is that, currently, LEDs are a novelty and are not practical for production. I've seen several photos of LED grows and they just aren't impressive. Plus, in order to achieve even half the results of an HPS system you need to invest a shitload of money. Maybe in 5 or 10 years when the technology is dramatically improved and the prices are reasonable, they will be good. But for now, why the hell would anyone use them?
