Rank-and-File Workers Get Bigger Raises
Short supply of labor, minimum-wage rises and increased poaching have helped lift wages for lower-income workers
By Eric Morath and Jeffrey Sparshott
Dec. 27, 2019

Wages for rank-and-file workers are rising at the quickest pace in more than a decade, even faster than for bosses, a sign that the labor market has tightened sufficiently to convey bigger increases to lower-paid employees.

Gains for those workers have accelerated much of this year, a time when the unemployment rate fell to century lows. A short supply of workers, poaching, and minimum wage increases has elevated the middle class faster than at any other time.
Keep it up. You're not old enough to remember when one fucking job per family was plenty. I do. Now, I have grandchildren working two jobs and they can barely afford a small apartment let alone extra money to buy stocks and food, car, etc. WSJ? Sure. Health insurance?

Fake news.

He's old enough. Just another grandpa racist.

BTW I remember, it was 1978, just graduated high school was working for accounting firm. Had my own apartment, car and credit cards.

I made $250/week and had employer health- Blue Cross/Blue Shield 80/20 $500 deductible.

Then two years later Ronald Reagan became president.

Yeah, my first wife never had to work. I made 1.50 hr. (pre 70's) with some overtime, still had money for food, weed, and shelter. Twenty bucks for a doc visit if you didn't have insurance. So the 50's and 60's were good but the rethuglicant's only want to take us back to the religious wonderland of no abortion, wife is a baby machine, and the one with the nuts is king era.

I'm old enough to remember when Washington crossed the Delaware ... it was front page news back then.

I remember when one car was all a family would need.
I remember when you bought a pick-up truck because you couldn't afford a car.
I remember that the first phone number I memorized as a child was four numbers.
I remember a doctor making a house call.
I remember an operator asking me for 'number please'.
I remember a teacher, in a public school ... teaching fifth graders that people have the right and the freedom to believe anything they want, and to express those beliefs.
I remember buying gas for 67 cents a gallon, getting the windshield washed, air checked, radiator topped and a 'thank you'.

We are old, so we resist change - that's normal.
Keep your mind young.
Think. Question. Read. Question. Observe. Question. Do your own research.
Above all .... ask questions.

I will put my brain up against any 20 something out there.
It wouldn't be a fair contest.
