Ya my cal mag is General Hydroponic. I understand it has more mag in it. Also the Ca has better buffering abilities ??
Ph 5.8 ppm 820. End of day 2.
Yeah the GH cal mag will work as a buffer. Why did I think it was calimagic?

Cali magic is General hydro calmag?
That is what you have right?

Ok I'm a little fucking pissed here I quick google calimagic. The ingredients were listed as cal nitrate and mag carbonate... So I'm like wtf that's not right. I go check my bottle and sure as shit cal nitrate and mag nitrate.

There is another GH cal mag that is cal carbonate and mag carbonate... Wtf is GH doing?

So let me just get to the point what are the Ingredients on the bottle of your cal mag

Yeah ok that will not provide any buffering. Ok good we are on the right track was worried I gave ya bad info on not using the cal mag after that Google search... But as luck would have it I was right lol

So. Clue me in on RO systems. I see some for $180 and some for $600. I have a basic knowledge of how the filters work. What I don’t understand is do they drain waste water back? So I would need to hook it up to a drain? I would consider a small unit for my upstairs sink. Could I then run a line down to my grow room? Thx
Edit. This would make my wife happy as she could use it for her coffee/ drinking water.

Hi Myke,
I've set up and used several RO units over the years. Only fairly pricey units preserve much of the waste water...using special pumps. But a cheapo unit will have runoff. If you have any use for the waste runoff...that's good. Peeps will use it in vege gardens sometimes.

But for 1 gal of RO...requires like between 5 and 10 gallons of water. So a bit wasteful if you have expensive water.

Just to add to JD the rate at which a unit can produce RO also largely impacts price.

How is the ph looking at this point?

I am starting to see some yellowing on new growth on the other plant. Bubba the Ca def one is looking ok.

Ph this am was 5.9. Ppm 870. Same as when I went to bed.

Yikes so pretty wasteful those ro units. Dam.
Ok so I think we solved your ph swing issue. A ppm increase of that much in that amount of time indicates your ppm is so high. So when you get time fill to the same water line as last night and check again. The ppm should be lower atleast a bit. The plant is drinking more than eating.

One thing that can give false info on this is if you have an open res. Some evaporation is expected but with an open res you can see ppm rise quite a bit and the plants actually are eating as much as drinking.

So question... Does your res have a lid?

Doesn't need to be air tight just to cut down on evaporation. Then we can see the uptake rates a bit more accurately

It can take 5-7days to be able to see the full impact of a nutrient concentration change or after correction of deficiency. So it's likely from close to a week ago. Let's wait and give it 4-5 days like this and see how she looks then. Nitrogen tox is one of the quicker ones so if you see clawing on new growth it's safe to say we should lower ppm sooner than later.

yep, i still think his max should be 1.2EC

and considering all the other issues like pH, it should be more like 0.8 until he's getting a daily drop of at least 0.1

I think your absolutely right. I wanted to get the ph stable mainly. But now that's done we can work on adjusting feed and other parameters.
