I am looking to find a nice white widow mom.
should I go with regular seeds or fem?
should I go with regular seeds or fem?
Please explain.Go regs. Most fems are inferior genetics. Really lacking the male influence. This is especially true of an older strain like WW.
Do you usually use fems? I know with fems, your genetic traits are limited, but with regs, it’s a little more open to finding that one plant (from what I’ve been reading). I was hoping to find some experienced growers and tell me what they usually find works best.Somehow it seems more likely to find a female keeper in 100 fem seeds than 100 regs.
No. I typically grow regs. They are much cheaper.Do you usually use fems? I was thinking about getting maybe 20 seeds of some white widow (unsure the breeder or which one. Is) as well as a really good blue dream (I hear Humboldt is where it’s at for BD).
hopefully out of 20 seeds Of each, I’ll be able to find a couple keepers.
Not saying you’re wrong, but based on your experience, what makes you say better to go with a fem? Aside from the cost of seedsNo. I typically grow regs. They are much cheaper.
Just surprised to hear someone say fems are less likely to produce a keeper.
Odds seem in favor of the fem seeds by at least double.
I dont really have an opinion on it. Just seems that based on odds, 100 fems would be more likely to produce a keeper as a mother for clones than 100 regs. Unless you are breeding where the selfing may create a problemNot saying you’re wrong, but based on your experience, what makes you say better to go with a fem? Aside from the cost of seeds
That makes sense. I was just curiousI dont really have an opinion on it. Just seems that based on odds, 100 fems would be more likely to produce a keeper as a mother for clones than 100 regs. Unless you are breeding where the selfing may create a problem
What do you mean? I’ve heard rhat before, but not to clear on why people say that and what makes a fake a fakeMr nice black widow is the real white widow
It's the original from the guy who made it. Others are most likely backcrosses or not even ww.What do you mean? I’ve heard rhat before, but not to clear on why people say that and what makes a fake a fake
Do you think that is overkill? You think a 10 pack would be good?I think that if ur searching through 50 seeds, whether theyre fem or reg, you should get a bunch of keepers if you go with a good source. Itll be more of figuring out which ones you like the most
Sadly, this is true for just about any seed, any strain, from many breeders. It’s remarkable how quickly we’ve bastardized pure strains. Misnamed on purpose or not, it’s a mess now. Look at any strain and note the % mix posted. Then research that strain with several breeders. Some breeders will have it reversed. I’ve seen this with GG, cookies, train wreck, and others I no longer recall. It's the original from the guy who made it. Others are most likely backcrosses or not even ww.
because to make female seeds, they spray bud sites on female plants with colloidal silver daily for a few weeks, this tricks the plant into thinking its male, making the bud site that was sprayed produce pollen sacks. that pollen is then used on other female plants and the seeds have a higher chance of being female because no male was ever introduced. Please explain.
I am curious to hear how fem genetics somehow inferior... Aside from the normal herm debate which will destroy this thread rapidly

Fem seeds lack things that males bring to the table. Vigor, strength, height are the most obvious. I'm sure there are also many more too. I've grown the same way for 14 yrs. 5x a year, I plant 12 seeds. 11 regs and 1 fem. The fem plant is always the smallest and weakest of the 12. Visually, this is incredibly obvious. I am also concerned about what may be lacking that we can not see. Terps, cannabanoids, other medicinal components, immune system? Idk, but no reason to assume that these are complete plants. Moms should be vigorous, healthy, produce, in it for the long haul. Better chance of this with reg seeds. Complete Moms from regs. I've finished some great fem seeds over the years. Good yields, good bud. Really nice stuff. But when seen next to reg seeds, consistently, easy to see that they are inferior. Please explain.

Yep, one or maybe two 10 packs you should find a nice girl that checks all the boxes as far as what youre looking for. If you have the space and resources, Id reccomend getting a pack of another strain that you think youd like and selecting a second mother. Its nice to have a little variety, expecially after a few weeks or months of the same stuffDo you think that is overkill? You think a 10 pack would be good?
