PH meter readings

Hi Guys,
Just got me digital PH meter from Amazon to test my water. I’ll be using the self watering Blumat system where my plants are hooked up to a watering pail (5 gallons).

My question is, can I test the PH in that 5 gallons of water only once? Will it change sitting in the pail? It’s a dark room where no light shines on the water.

To learn if the ph changes, by how much, how often...
I would check it before each use.
Adjust as needed.
Then once confident it will hold the ph you want....no need to check as often.

Care and calibration of ph pen critical!

It’s a self watering system so if I check my pail once a day for first few days that would be safe? Thanks

The PH meter requires cleaning etc in distilled water. Is boiling the water an alternative? to use rather then distilled ? Is that the only option? What are peeps using for water for the meters ?

collect the steam vapors from the boiling water and it will be distilled water...like a still

it shouldn't change.

when you say watering pail do you mean like a bucket of water you have sitting there with out a plant in it. if so then no the ph of the water shouldn't change but id keep a air stone in there so the nutrients keep from dropping out of solution

i often leave pre mixed nutrients in water sitting around with air stones in them and i have never seen my ph change. if you are letting the water evaporate then yes ph will change along with ec. if you use the 5 gal with in 1 week its fine and i wouldn't bother checking it every use

this will also depend on what nutrients you use. i base this on synthetic base nutrients not any organic stuff

Yes l, Blumat is a self watering system. A 5 gallon pail is the holding tank.
