Democrats biggest obstacle to $15/hr minimum wage

There's a lot of jobs up here in Michigan starting at $14-16 an hour. I mean a lot of jobs, you know I drive around everywhere up here and go to A LOT of different factories and warehouses. These places are begging for workers, they can't find enough people to work. Now those wages are just starting wages, I know there's opportunity to earn more after time, benefits are included too.

The problem here is no one wants to actually work.

There are good $70,000 a year good union jobs available where I worked for 40 yrs. right fucking now. Full benefits for the entire family.

But 77% can't seem to pass the drug test.

If a young person can't clean up for a couple months, and later once a year with advance notification then yeah, they must not want to work.

It's a fucking shame. Get the damn job, party later.

Because Democrats gotta service business interests before their electorate.

If these people are supposed to be our friends, who needs enemies?
naked capitalism is a propaganda website that serves the right wing agenda. Anything from that site is suspect.

If you want to see the policies you support to ever be realized, vote Democrats in.

why do you think there's been no movement toward ousting trumpy? moderates owe favors and need to be re-elected- gotta straddle that fence and not commit to anything..god forbid a REAL DECISION is made or PROGRESS accomplished.

but they're used to working in the coal mines and those are the jobs they are entitled to- not some $14-16/hour telemarketing position..they don't like it, they're miners and we need to bring those jobs back.

PS..KYnnect is ACA:lol:

Yeah, that's part of the problem, folks don't want to stop using. I've heard from my company's OTR drivers that out west in California and Colorado trucking companies offer $20-25K sign on bonus because they can't find local drivers that can pass a drug test.

It isn't a particularly persuasive article. There are a whole lot of accusations about motive but damn little in the way of facts.
They have to blame someone.

The funny part is it's clearly a "pro-Bernie" site. He's been in Washington for 30 years and has never once championed any legislation to increase the minimum wage.

I wonder why?

The entire article is moronic on its face: It is basically a half wit wanting Congress to waste its time on a venture they have absolutely ZERO chance of success in completing rather than spend their time on real issues they can actually do something about.

In other words, it's Tty. Shout at the rain and blame others rather than try to get real results with real people.

I'll smoking weed for a real job, but I've never found anyone that actually was willing to pay those kinds of numbers without years of experience or a degree. I was in retail management for years and never got offered over $15, but that meant moving to a city with high living costs, so I would have been losing money.

If you guys have real suggestions I'm very seriously all ears. I would love to be able to take care of my family more comfortably. One stipulation is I have no interest in CDL driving and don't know with my driving history if I could even get one :).

Median annual personal income in the US is about 35k, which works out to $16.83/hr for 40hr work week. "Median" means half of all jobs pay less than that or if they do pay more, they are less than full time jobs. Just saying, you are right, high paying jobs are not everywhere and are uncommon with a lot of competition for them. The reality is, most of the job creation in this country have been service sector jobs like Uber and elder care, which pay in the range I just mentioned.

Personally, I think a 15 dollar/hr minimum wage is just a start. People who work full time ought to be earning a living wage, and 15 bucks an hour isn't that in urban areas, where more and more people are living.

I've been lucky and found something I love doing, carpentry. Rarely have I earned less than $50 an hour in something like 20 years, often it's been much more.
