First time growing outside questions

How soon should I be taking my seedlings and transplant them? Currently on day 8 after dropping beans into the soil. I was going to go about 1 week after seeing them pop and show true leaves in the bigger pot and then separate/transplant them into red solo cups.

Should I be running them in a green house to help with growth? I plan on building a 10 x 12 greenhouse over the next couple weeks after I clean up the back yard. When it rains and they are younglings are they in danger? Cold/too much water?

Should I have started them all indoors with germination methods? I kinda wanted a simple start without having to use germ methods I've used. I've always %100 success rate with rapid routers, heat mat, plastic container cells with humidity dome.

Growing a bunch in 1 pot then separation ok for seedlings? How long can seedlings be near each other till they get have root issues?
I was hoping this method doesn't make the roots wrap up around each other and I loose seedlings when trying to separate them.

Current situation for my questions:

I have a BUNCH of seeds thrown into a 5 gallon fabric pot, 5 x 1 gallon fabrics and 7 cardboard starter pots.

Currently in California we are getting some rain and I'm pretty much not watering the last few days. I know that tap water pH runs at about 6.5 to 7 when I've ran my indoor grows. I've just been giving it tap till it started raining the last couple days. They are starting to kinda reach for the sky and I worry about them getting to long.

Got my usual grow journal going and will try to document as much as I can here: RiU Journal

You need to separate them as soon as they sprout when they are that close. The roots grow pretty fast. When I have that many, I go ahead and put 2-3 per hole. After sexing, you can cull back to the best looking female in each hole.

Oh man I had so many seeds I figured I could throw 3 to 6 per hole I put a quater of inch down.

Some popped within 4 days and the rest at 5. They have been going now for 4 days for all of them above ground and I just took a quick peek when I stopped at home and they are getting long now.

How can I determine the sex in seedlings? I figured I'd have to grow them out till I can see male or female bits.

I was going to take out the bright yellow and the smaller runts.

Should I be looking for ones that are the tallest or best tap root?

This is from an old grow. If my memory is correct, I planted 9 seeds, had 6 sprout then 1 died. When they are a little bigger, or I just need to move them for security reasons, I'll take the tray to the woods and transplant into their final hole. I use a spatula to get them out. If they get through the first few days without a critter rooting them up, odds are they will make it.

I meant when they were sexually mature at 4-6 weeks. You will have to wait on them to show. Most of the time roughly half will be males, so you can double plant without too much risk.

They will jump if you get them in good soil soon.

If you want to spend some $, you can get sex tests performed on a piece of the cotelydons.

These are just bag seed and I planted so many with the intent to murder the males. :fire:

Yours look much older then my seedlings. I plan on using Recipe 420 again once I transplant them.

The second image is dookie potting soil I got on the cheap that is in the 1 gallons I'm running the entire time in them.

Not sure of age. About a week old I would guess. But having more space and good soil, they grow fast right from the start. Those would have been ready for the woods in another week.

I buy almost no weed growing crap. You pay two prices for it. My soil mixes are rich in manure composts with maybe 1/3 Sungro potting soil, 1/3 peat moss and the rest composts and amendments.

I plan on running Fox Farm 50/50 Ocean Forest and Happy Frog. With some Plant Success granules.

I've ordered 200 solo cups but I'm only going to be able to veg in them for a couple weeks.

I'm planning on running an assortment of some fabric 1 gallons, fabric 5 gallons, 1 gallon plastics, 5 gallon plastics and a few 10 gallons.

Would it be best to just transplant as many healthy seedlings in 1 or 2 gallons till I get the bigger 5+ gallons ready and buy more soil?

I will be building a 12 x 8 greenhouse in the backyard and not even sure if I'll be able to fit it all.

Soz fella, too much reading to do...

How many plants u got ?

Pots: use 1 gal first (not fabric; difficult to repot) then straight into final pots.

I always dig a hole, put growing soil in it and Then plants straight in. Why u wanna use pots?

What greenhouse u buying? Weblink/photos?

I always bold up my questions.

I plan on sexing out over 80 seedlings.

My plan is having a variety of sizes to extend my growing time throughout winter. Keeping a few of them in larger pots in a greenhouse.
Screenshot_20190518-140010_Chrome.jpg Something simple like this.

I was thinking all of them can go into 3 gallon plastics. Due to not owning our home and the need to be able to move them is a must. Plus I'll be giving about 10 of them to friends and family.

I would put a few of the best looking ones in solo cups and the rest in pots. In the pots you could get away with 4-5 sprouts for a while.

My situation is different, as I grow in the bush, and can't keep shit around the house very long. But for me, the one main advantage to planting in bulk like that is not having to deal with the used solo cups or pots out in the bush. I try to get mine in the ground as soon as possible for security reasons.

Makes sense. I'd love to go stright into soil but my ground is hard and I plan on running weed killers and spray, cleaning up the dog mess and building a large green house.

I have to have them hidden from prying neighbor eyes. Next would be cause I have 2 very large dogs that are diggers ....when I say they dig ....THEY DIG! :wall:

And my wife's dog Vader20181116_192232.jpg

They are also our guard dogs and will be around the perimeter which they do a great job as they are scary as hell!

When I have sprouts in cups or trays at the house, I have to keep the cats out of them. Had 2-3 trays with 15 solo cups per tray. Cat dug a cathole in one of the cups, but tossed the dirt {and unsprouted seed} into other cups. An either or situation. Another time there was an epic cat fight on trays of sprouts. Lost a few that day.
