You are right on the edge of the safe zone. Assuming you gradually lowered you light hours to match natural hours.

For some reason it seems like I've heard that description of how the gas lantern works before. lol

I turn the lights on for 5 minutes outside at 10pm :- doing good so far . I started out with
Turning them on at 6pm to 9 but i had to mess with it again . Kind of fun to do if automatic ....happy growing

I tried running GLR in my veg once and a few strains would try to flower with it. I had an ocean breeze OG cut that would try to flower, and a kushage I think.

My problem is reversed. I live way up in northern Alberta and the plants won't start budding outside until the middle of Aug and we have had hard frost by the end of august.

I need a blackout green house but that's a few more coins than I have in the piggy-bank. Still at 15 hours of light/day mid-Aug.

Early spring this year and the wife is planting her veggies in the garden already when it's usually the first week of June before the tomatoes go outside. Could still get frost or a big dump of snow yet. Snowed last week a bit but like summer out there now.

it was done to keep flowers in an almost ready to bloom phase so when they went to market they were blooming. Victorian times.

The wife has the tomatoes outside now in a half-assed greenhouse she knocked together. They did really well under my old bank of T-12s in the shop this year. She usually just starts them in the south facing window of the shop but it's colder there and days too short. Doing about 50 of those this year and upping the garlic and onions to over 600 each. Ran out of both from last years crop.

Good garden last year and with all the compost tilled in last week could even be better this year. I can hardly wait for the fresh peas!

around here, potatoes grow great. i had a hail storm kill off almost all last year. gonna make something to protect them this season.

She grows lots of spuds too. I like those purple ones and they are supposed to be loaded with a lot more goodness. Don't think she is putting any in this year tho. I'd like some sweet potatoes too but none of those either.

Then there's the broccoli, turnips, parsnips and all sorts of stuff I haven't a clue about. The veggie garden and chickens are her thing. I grow the pot and fix shit when it breaks.

I did not know that about the flower thing. Thanks for that tidbit.

I had always heard one hour at midnight for weed, but Mo or one of the other Islanders said they do two hours just to be on the safe side. So I have revised my advice accordingly.

You don't need to turn the light on at midnight for it to work. Lately I've just been running 12w LED lights at sunset till about 11pm and it works just the same and is a little less odd to a neighbor than a light that turns on at 12am every night.
