Yeah there is no real winner and many ways to grow great plants. Lets be honest different lights change everything from nutrient uptake to equipment needed and how its setup much like @Apalchen pointed out. Its very situation dependent much like you found your sweet spot with CMH.

I dunno, I think I did ok back in the day with HPS and have an ok handle on HPS vs Cobs.

Picture looks great it’s just the math that’s hard to understand like I said I’m not saying your lying about your yields from cob to hps. Just that 2 grams per watts seems like it would be completely dialed and even then it just matches .85 gpw with the hps. .85 grams per watt of hps is fairly easy goal to hit. So I completely believe it’s possible just that with the cobs I would think you would have to kill it to achieve the same results as mediocre yield on the hps. But I mean that’s still awesome with less than half the power of the 600 hps.
Are the cobs in same size footprint as the 600 and do they get overlap from any other lights?

I am in a 3x3 and keeping it legal with 4 plants. There maybe some small overlap, but I have them pretty well spaced apart. 3 Autocobs and 1 mars cob. The one more expensive mars cob @105w does not keep up. Keep in mind I am sure we are comparing apples and oranges here a little bit. You have to factor in grow time with your .85 grams per watt with HPS. I am assuming you are figuring on average Photoperiod flower with clone/veg/bloom times. I am using a auto flower for reference with an 80day total grow time. I'm not sure what the G/watt would work out to for photo periods on the autocobs. Always have to factor in time.

There are best case scenarios for many of the different lighting options. It's not a "One size fits all" or "This is the best" situation. In fact I'll continue using florescent high output T5's for starting seeds and vegging because I think they provide great results, you can get the light right over the plant from early stages and prevent stretching in veg. I don't think I'll ever switch from T5's for starting seedlings.
Anyway. I'm about to have some of that PCK/Durban cross I made topped with some dry ice hash. That's the reason I grow. I could care less about some silly light spectrum chart and how many grams per watt a light yields. I do just fine with my antiquated 600 watt HPS. I give over half of what I grow away anyway. In my case there is no reason to expend any additional cash to purchase some new light because it uses a little less power and doesn't put off as much heat. HPS for me for now. I can buy a new LED setup or I can use that money to go on vacation, maybe buy some 18 year single malt scotch. My money is better spent on other things than fancy new lights.

PCK/Durban Just one of my many offspring. I'm focused on growing weed not what light people use. And by the way, this was grown under a 600 watt HPS and turned into fire.

I grow in a closet that's about 5' x 2 1/2' X 8' tall. This is my first time using CMH, but I really like it. I only have one light and one plant. The other turned male. This is a pick of a PPP strain at day 42. Not sure what the yield will be. I think it would do 2 plants if kept manageable. This plant got away from me a little because I never grew sativa and didn't top. I think a 5x5 footprint would take two lights.
