If you can keep the tent cool you could add some LED strips on the sides of your 3x3 with cmh up top, the only complaint I have about cmh is penetration and that could be my shallow reflector.

Do you think I'll have heat issues running a 315w CMH in a 3x3 with a 4" Stealth exhaust fan (189 CFM rating) pulling thru a carbon filter? Right now I'm using a speed control unit on my fan, and have the speed dialled to its lowest setting. I run a space heater to keep my tent at 78 (current light being a 1000W HiGrow Blurpel that only draws 180W from the wall). My thought was that with the CMH, I can ditch the space heater. Considering I have loads of negative pressure already and only have 1 floor vent open... If the temps get too warm (80 plus), I can always open more floor vents and increase my fan speed.. Does this sound logical, or am I doomed without a proper intake fan unit - was hoping to keep that as passive intake??

No need for an intake fan.
Your probably looking at around 6 degrees rise from ambient air temp with a 315 and that fan on full.
I assume you can afford that sort of temp rise from what ever air supplies your tent.

Someone on another thread had a 2nd cmh blow up on him. That makes me a little apprehensive about them (fire), but, other than that, I've heard nothing but good things.

But I think the majority of people would have better numbers and quality under cmh. I want to like LED, I really do because I could use pallet racking for double layer grow and have way more sq ft of canopy. But the prices are too high and although some people and facilities have switched over and are doing good, I see quite a lot of people in commercial settings trying some LED fixtures and then going back to HID lighting and just vegging with LED. When large gardens known for high quality start making the switch( not just a sponsored run) I will consider it again if the prices are reasonable.

You won't have heat issues running a 315W CMH light as long as the ambient temperature is not too high.
