my personal problem with google is that they fucked up my morning news. i had 3 personalized sections about places i used to live or have friends living in, i had things set up so i got at least some stories i was interested in. now they've removed my personalized sections, and forced the sports section back onto my page. i hate sports, and could give a fuck about reading about any of them.....there is a button on each story that says :block all stories from this site"....it does absolutely nothing. there are also buttons that say "more stories like this", and "less stories like this"...as far as i can tell, they do absolutely nothing.
so google decides what news we get to see, and tries to give us the illusion that we have some choice in the matter......
There are also a lot larger problems at google that aren't being dealt with. they just had a 20,000 worker walkout that was organized in three days....if 20,000 workers are upset enough to stage a mass walkout with three days notice, you most definitely have human resource problems.....pay and opportunity inequities, sexual harassment, and the covering up of sexual harassment, the only recourse anyone had if they felt like they were being harassed was forced arbitration, which was a route many were embarrassed to go down, which seems to be the reason it was chose to begin with.... changing well established positions from in house positions to private contract positions, so they don't have to offer any benefits at all.....
and of course, there is the supposition that google listens to your phones, tracks all your activities, keeps records of all your purchases.....
google is starting to seem like Big Brother....and i am most definitely not Winston Smith
