I want to know this.
How much did u pay for the 600w MH/HPS and how much for the XXL growtent and ventilation?
I am looking for an upgrade and i can afford it.
I have a 400w hps/MH.
would a 600w make a big difference?
And how many plants do u think could fit in the grow tent?
Could 20 fit in there?
Ok heres the list in ponds sterling....

XXL Budbox £160
2 x 600w MH/HPS Ballast £60
1 x MH Bulb £20
1 x superova reflector £40
6" Extraction filter + carbon filter £110
1 x flood table kit £150
1 x 250w envirolite £25
Other bits like rockwool propagation tray etc about £50
1 x ph tester £25
1 x ec truncheon £65
1 x primair fan cotroller £50
1 x contactor £15

So thats about it for now but there are a couple more bits i picked up today i havent put in yet but will be soon.

Anyways i picked up the flood table kit and put it all together, they ADVISED to use a rubber mallet, let me tell you now, you could have had a pneumatic mallet and still not put it together, but still its stading and bee pretty well done but as you can see it looks ok. Altogether now there are 10 plants, but lookig at my pics i wanna fill the space up some more, there is another flood table coming in a couple of weeks but ot yet, and i think im gonna buy some more seeds, any ideas anyone......

I haven't fired up the 600w MH i have to do some wiring but im gonna do it tomorrow morning, ever since i transpanted the plants they have perked up nicely i presume with the oxgen and space for the roots, i handwatered them earlier after i tested everything worked with the flood table, which it did, so hopefully they'll be rooting nicely asap:eyesmoke::eyesmoke::eyesmoke:

Tomorrow i will begin flooding the table even if it isnt getting to the roots yet just to get some moisture in and around there. When i filled the pots with hydroton, i left a 1/2" gap between the flood level and rockwool cube as advised by Al B. Fuct. Also i rinsed the clay pebbles for a good 10 mins and they still lef some residue in the bottom of my flood tray, as you may see in some pictures.

I want more seeds anyone have any good ideas?????? I dont mind and would rather get feminised but im open to ideas............

Anyways i will be updating more tomorrow just gotta get some work done :peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace:

Ok so i rewired my reflector and ie fired up the 600w MH, as expected the temps shot up but they seem to hae leveled at 28.8c, which is too high..... I only have an extractor fan at the mo but im gonna buy an intake fan tomorrow, see if this helps me control the temps, otherwise its gonna be a cooltube and some major ventilation overhaul, but we'll see what happens this weekend........

Any advice for rising temps???????

Hi Idnsharkkid,

As I was reading through the questions and answers of Al B Fuct replies (via Al B FAQt thread) I thought Id check out your journal I could learn a few things & then I saw your setup, I too am planning on using Al B Fucts "Get a harvest every 2 weeks" method. However I have a few quick questions:

Im considering returning my Atami Wilma 4 pot system and purchasing a flood & drain kit like yours,
WHERE CAN I BUY THE ONE YOU HAVE?
WHAT IS COST?
AND WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS?
AND WHY EXACTLY DID AL RECOMMEND YOU USE WALL POTS INSTEAD OF NET POTS?

I payed £100 for my Primair controller where did you purchase yours for £50?

The same for you PH pen?

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY AFTER YOU GERMINATED YOUR SEEDS AND PLACED THEN IN ROCKWOOL HOW OFTEN DID YOU WATER THE ROCKWOOL AND HOW MUCH? IVE KILLED MY SEEDS TWICE BY WATERING TOO MUCH.

As you've probably guessed Im a noobie and need a little advice could you help me out by answering the above questions.

Cheers.

Hi, personally i dont think im the right person to gie advice but ill give it a go......

Go to google and type ' flood and drain table' and you will get enough results of suppliers. its about 90cm x 90cm, its a fairly simple design with a moulded plastic tray, it was pretty easy to put together a bit awkward without a rubber mallet but thats £5 in ur local DIY store...

Al recommended i use solid pots instead of net pots so that the roots dont grow out of the holes in the net pot. Roots do not like the light, therefore it would be better to use solid pots...

I got my primair controller from everyones much loved auction site, fleabay shall we say...ph pen £25 from local hydro shop.

IM A COMPLETE NOOBIE ASWELL BUT IVE NEVER KILLED MY SEEDS,I PRESOAK MY SMALL (40MM) ROCKWOOL CUBES IN PH 5.5 WATER FOR 24 HOURS,THEN LET THEM DRY FOR 24 HOURS, THEN PLACE MY SEED IN WHEN ITS GERM'D. I THEN JUST DIP THE CORNER OF THE CUBE IN WHEN IT FEELS DRY, FOR ABOUT A SECOND, AND GIE IT A LITTLE SHAKE TO MAKE SURE IT ISNT SOAKED.....IVE GERM'D 30 SEEDS IN MY LIFE, ALL 30 HAVE GROWN....

Thanks for lookin at my journal and feel free to comment whenever u like..........sweet :peace::peace::peace:

Thanks for the quick reply Ill keep this in mind when the times comes for the flowering period.
Its good to bounce ideas off each other especially considering the fact that we are growing using a similar method & also we use the same currency (if you know what I mean).

Ill definitely take a read through your journal and comment every now & then.

Thanks again.

Ok time for a quick pic update and you will see my setup has changed but im still having problems with temp control......

Ok so quick update.... i wet and brought a cooltube which i hae now installed but im still haing difficulty arranging the ventilation to include the colltube but still keep low temps by extracting air....at the moment my extractor fan is drawing air from outside the tet, through the cooltube and out the top, which means there is no current airflow i the tent, im toying around with some ideas and hopefully ill have it sorted out by tomorrow....

Anyways fired up the 600w MH bulb and the plants seem to love it, its about 60 cm away from the plants at the mo i will begi droppin tomorrow maybe see if i ca but i wanna sort out the temp probs 1st...

I have been flooding every 3 hours starting at lights on until lights off, and i dont flood at all during lights off....i mixed my tank of nutes yesterday my tap water is about 180ppm i added 100ml each of Canna aqua vega A + B, which took my ppm to 800, therefore my nute ppm was 620, this took my tap water dow to ph 6.3, and i had to add about 8 ml of ph down to get it to 5.7, the plants seem to like the light and the nutes and you can tell from the pics only 3 days ago there is development so its all good for now as long as i sort out the temp issues quickly....

Anyways anyone, feel free to comment any advice is appreciated especially for ventilation ideas, im gonna draw up a plan on paint now and see if it works i will post it in a bit....:peace::peace::peace::peace:

Nice looking set up!! Once you have the vents worked out you will be TOKIN for sure.

I am a newb on this site and I have gotten a lot of great advice here. Keep on working hard (Ididn't know being a weed baron was such hard work)

I made my own table so I covet your new plastic easy to use stuff.

Al B.Fuct has a lot of great info for perpetual harvest and I too am modeling my op after his. Gotta love simple and clear.

Peace out

Im having problems with starting off with my beans.
After germinating I placed the seeds in Rockwool & immediately switch on the Fluros & kept them on 24/7 the humidity was at 90-99% and temp at 28C after watering lightly they died due to mould.

Can you give me any advise on what I should do different this time.

I'm growing my mother stock up in soil because that is what I am familiar with. When they are big enough I will take clones and put them on hydro. Then I plan on keeping some of the clones for mothers and ditch the soil altogether.

ldnsharkkid, you can sure see the difference in the greenness in just a short time after starting to feed them.

Lookin good.

Hi all, quick post gonna put some pics after aswell even though its only been 2 days.....

I cant tell you for sure but the humidity needs to be a lot less for seeds, maybe around 50-70%, 90% will cause mould on anything not recommended, if i were you i would do as i said, soak the rockwool in a bowl of ph 5.5 water for 24 hours, take it out, give it a good shake, and let it dry. When you put your seed in the rockwool just dip the bottom 2mm in ph5.8 water for about 2 secs just so it soaks a LITTLE bit up, give it a little shake to get rid of excess water, then put it in a propagator, and watch it grow. The propagator doesnt have to be heated just helps keep some temp/humidity in the air, but not too much, 90% is way too much. But like i said im no expert ive only been growing for about 6 months but this has worked for me every time......

Thanks for the comment kpw....Al makes it sound so easy doesnt he lol...personally as a newbie myself the hydro isnt too hard, but soil is probably a lot easier. A friend of mine just done a soil grow and when i asked him what ph water he was giving his plants, he looked shocked, he was just using tapwater. I have smoked some of his grow and it is the bomb, which proves that soil is pretty noobie proof, to a degree......hydro is a lot less messier and has other advantages, but i am also going to model my op on Al's op because its regular weed and a nice amount, and once setup properly only requires maintenance which should become second nature after a while......

love looking at this thread. you keep it so clean! + rep
Thanks Crippledguy nice to know someone thinks im doin ok.........quick pic update....they look to me like they grow quite a bit each day, maybe not so noticeable in the pics but definately happening lol...

Anyway ie just finished a long 12 hour nite shift so im going bed with the extractor fan drumming in my ear........zzzzzzzz

hey Bro, lookin good.... I was actually in the water back in Humboldt in 94 and a guy got attacked by a great white about 20 feet out from me... ANyway, on to your room.... It is clean and nice to see such attention to detail.... Let's talk about your temps now.... I run 2 600's vertically in a 6'x7'x8' in a 48 inch cooltube with a 8inch exhaust and 6 inch inlet... My exhaust is dialed for twice the cfm I need, but you know cooltubes are made to run from outside your room, through the tube and out the ceilng.... Here are a few things you can do to cool a little more....
1.) Run a bigger exhaust so you can run an open end splitter inside your room, so you can exhaust your tube and pull from inside the room...... If your fan is big enough you can use it for a passive intake to suck frsh air in at the same time.... You will probably need a seperate intake though, and the important thing is to pull/push as much from a straight outside air source as possible, not just room air.... And remember too, your can filter is weekening your cfm pull on your fan big time.
2.) build a cooler for your air to run through prior to the tube.... I built one with a foam ice chest and just cut a hole for the exhaust, seeled it up around the duct and put an air filterin between that part of my ducting and the room entrance....
3.) Get a seperate exhaust from your tube exhaust
4.) last result is air conditioner

I have a hell of a time keeping my temps under 85 where I live, even with all my air flow, but I know I could lower it if I bumped my fan size even more,,,,, Just make sure your air flow is good. Keep it consistent ceiling to floor and keep moisture up.... when you start cranking up the heat and air flow, humidity drops fast, so provide as much of a rainforest environment as you can to battle high temps..... i'm in 3rd week of floweng right now and humidity has been 11%......... i'd be stoked if I was 3 weeks from being done flowering.... Oh well, we would never et good at anything if it was all easy from the start..... Anyway, propps, looks good..... And you should dump that old school flood table and go mist.... And get net pots, just get the lid they make for your table and then the roots will never have a chance to see the light.... way better air in net pots

Those plants look good ldnsharkkid.

Yeah Al sure makes it look easy.

I have all my babies in soil and under 600W MH conversion bulb right now hope to have clone stock in a week or two.

The color of your plants has changed 100% since you put them in nutes. Lookin good again.:leaf:

Woke up this morning and the shi**y reflector that came with the cooltube had popped off and landed on one of my plants actually snapped a leaf and bent it over for a while, i will update with some pics in a bit got a busy day tidyin everything up, chaging the net pots to solid pots, changing the res, cleaning the table etc etc also still tryin to figure out how im gona do this ventilation but ill work it out soon....

Does anyone agree that a 8" extractor sucking the cooltube and room air mass with a 6" intake would be enough, i could get the intake fan to have an ambient air temp of about 10-15c will this keep my room cool, and also ill be using the primair controller does anyoe think this will sove my problem???

Any thoughts are welcome.......:peace::peace::peace:

8 inch exhaust, 6 inch intake, sounds familiar................... If your air temp outside is above what you want then exhausting your tube is only half the problem...... I would run a 6" through the tube, a straight 6" for exhausting the room and a 6" intake, then you should be ok......... You need to exchange the air in your room. Whether that means running a 8 or 10" and splitting it between room and tube, or seperate exhaust for both

I dont quite get you at the moment my exhaust air is being pumped into my bedroom, which is a constant 22 celcius....if i put an intake fan on i can place it at my window, which has a much cooler air, say 10-15 degrees celcius which will be going down as winter kicks in, so if i use my primair controller and an 8" extractor fan and a 6" intake i can hopefully keep it a constat 25 degrees celcius.....the question i was asking was will the 8" be enough to suck air thorugh the carbon filter, and then push air through the cooltube and out the budbox???

Anyways let me know your opinions anyone, thanks :peace::peace::peace:

are you running your cooltube to the air inside the room, or like it's made to run, from outside the room, through the tube and back out?
