subbin up for this one. I've been wanting to learn how to make this stuff!
It would be badass if I had comfrey to make ferments with!!! I'm most likely going to start some indoors this year. The part that I am most excited about is using ferments to treat rabbit manure and fix the toxicity in it. I'm not sure what makes it toxic or how it works, but Grokashi is supposed to do it. I was getting very discouraged with my compost because it really didn't seem to work for me in previous years. It had me seriously depressed! Anyways, I'm glad that you stopped by!

It's the em1 in gro kashi. The lactic bacteria kills off pathogens and breaks down all kinds of material. It can even be used to bioremediate contaminated soils and contaminated waters. You can use em1, lab, gro kashi, and or bokashi to achieve that.

Teraganix (em1) has a section on their web site that talks about treating pollution.

You can order comfrey crowns here

I've been trying to get these leaves to break down forever(13mo) so I decided to try some home made Grokashi in my worm bin. About a week ago, I added some wet grokashi in a small corner of the bin. I checked on them and there was definitely a population boost, there were lumpy worms everywhere. Anyways, I decided to treat the whole bin with it and I used about 4 gallons. I also made a mix of azomite, basalt, glacial rock dust, and alfalfa meal. I ran low on kelp.

Day 12 flower... So boring, sorry. I got bored taking pics...
DSC01131.JPG

I just bought some new hoods and I'm going to take down the air-cooled hoods for the winter and use wing reflectors. I have a light rail but it's PITA trying to do it with the ducting. Plus, I had a ballast go out on me so I was down to 3x lights. I have a replacement coming in the mail. These air cooled hoods are very dirty and it's probably time to take them down and clean them anyways. I was also trying to mix the bulbs MH-HPS-MH-HPS, but I am having so much trouble with the MH on start-up. I have to unplug the ballast and plug it back in to get it to fire up. Sometimes 2x-3x. Also, they MH bulbs dont seem to be as bright. So, I might go all HPS and only use the blue for the last 2 weeks, like your supposed to do. I'm hoping that open wings will give me a few more lumens, being on a light rail I should be able to bring the lights closer. I have a couple of Gavita lights that I just cannot use during the summer, they will be perfect for keeping the garage warm.

Man, my plants look well now but I was having some major issues with them. I had the soil tested and I was very low on boron, so I fixed it. However, the clones that I took show how bad the plants were in only 2-3 weeks ago. The clones were spotted when I took them and I think that they will recover, but I wanted to show what a boron def looks like. I put them in the "fixed" soil a few days ago.

I usually do a solubility test when I am having problems with my soil, so this is the "Soil Savvy" test.
DSC01054.JPG

I treated the soil with borax and I used a Mehlich 3 test from Logan Labs because I think that this is more accurate after adding inputs. I think that I nailed the Boron levels at 2.2! There is such a narrow gap between not enough boron and too much, because I read that it can start getting toxic at 3-4ppm while 1ppm is low. My magnesium is a little high from using dolomite and I don't think that I will use it again. I replaced it with basalt, glacial rock dust, and azomite. The potassium levels are supposed to be 2x higher than the recommended level for cannabis and I think that it is the only difference. The test is showing that I am very close to the recommended level, but I need to double it. I read that high brix is helped by lower N and higher K anyways.

Make sure you add pulverized egg shells to the worm bin when you add gro kashi or bokashi. The kashi will lower the ph of bin, inviting pot worms and making it uninhabitable for red wigglers. The egg shells brings the ph back to neutral. Plus the red wigglers love egg shells. Especially when it's mixed with bokashi

We had chickens but I think that we have a bobcat out here eating them. I'm going to build a better pen if I expect to keep them around. Anyways, I have about 80lbs of OSF. Plus, I didn't snow today like it was supposed to, so I might pull the tarp back and add it in.

Awesome thread. I've been trying all these knf methods as well as probiotic. I haven't been able to get my hands on em1 they won't ship to Canada. Just like Gro-kashi. Amazon.ca has it listed. I tried to order them and they cancelled my order.
I made l.a.b.s this summer. The first batch of rice wash water turn out O.K.
My second batch smelled horible. It didn't smell like cheese. It smelled like an old gym bag that had sweaty clothes left in it for a week. So I tossed it. Any tips on making lactose bacillus

Rice wash never smells good. Just don't letvit ferment longer than 4 days. Cover jar with at least 3 layers of coffee filters for rice wash stage. Once you add the rice wash to the milk. The lactic bacteria will kill off any bad pathogens in the rice wash. Ferment the whole thing for roughly a week or til tge curd and whey separate. Then strain and activate whey. . Environment plays a factor in ferment time.

Hyroot has more exp than me on the subject and you should listen to him. Hyroot is actually the one that got me into probiotics because my compost never really worked out for me.

I found some wing-hoods and they were only $25 each, so I got 4x of them. I can take down my air-cooled hoods for the winter because they are dirty and heavy. I've had this light rail installed for almost 2 years and have not been able to use them, it's PITA trying to run heavy hoods that have the ducting! So, I got some lightweight hoods and they seem to be much brighter w/o the glass. I also had a ballast that went out, so I bought another used lumatek to match the others.
