Background:
The regular street lights are primarily Sodium Vapor Lamps (orange color lighting) since the luminous efficacy (lumens/watt) of the lamp is the highest for sodium vapor lamp (>100lm/watt).
That is the primary reason Sodium vapor lamps were predominantly used for street lighting since the quantity of light is the highest with that lamp and the quality of the light for street lighting isn't critical. A typical Sodium vapor lamp consumes around 150 watts with additional 10-15 watts for the ballast.
Advent of LEDs:
With the technological advancements, the LEDs have gained popularity with lower power consumption and higher lifetime.
A typical 150 watt sodium vapor lamp can be replaced with close to 60 watt LED lamp (saving of more than 50%)
Energy Saving in Street Lighting:
The street lighting is controlled and operated by the local municipal corporations. Government of India under the aegis of EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limited (http://eeslindia.org/Home.aspx)), an entity under Ministry of Power has started a program called Street Lighting National Program, wherein the Govt. is driving the faster implementation of LEDs for street lighting by the municipalities.
Accordingly, the municipal corporations are entrusted to replace the lighting with LED lights.
Now, due to the high initial investments required for installing LEDs, the municipal corporations are adopting a model called ESCO (Energy Service Companies) where the LED supplier installs the LED street lights and he is paid by the municipal corporations based on the savings achieved which is monitored monthly.
The faster implementation depends on a lot of factors like the funds and budget available with the Municipalities, the priorities of the Municipal corporations etc.
I have been personally involved in preparation of the Tender document for a municipality which was planning to implement LED street lighting on ESCO basis...!!

If its over a plant its a light on a timer and as I said earlier their is a reason some outdoor growers use lights outside in spring..

Dude the flaw of the led was that it made a spot or beam and could not spread out like a low powered sodium street light of which i assume the uk use the 90w version.

This has been noted by darker areas on streets replaced with lower wattage leds in inner city areas with high crime rates. Fuck i can just walk out doors and compare a sodium to led in my street and sodium lights up a shitload futher and more.

Your broscience against my reported science but again your making far fetched led claims again and my answer is the answer in uk streetlighting science so.not sure wtf your on about apart from more led market hype.

Dont say it you wont grt corrected, less wattage leds suck against sodium, you blind?

:-)

Na dude you lost the plot and like most start getting doucey when real fact and science starts pushing your broscience around.

I and others really make you look stupid in many topics here. You cant understand light because you never stepped outa the grow forums.

Your a ppfd wanker, we get a lot here, we see who you are, you dont grow as well as us, your big headed and argumentaitve :-)

Probably, I'm in Australia. There all LED around me. Allot brighter than the older lamps.
To a noob it would seem that way, what do you know about street light data, its well known the area lit is much less, we have crime and light reports here identifying the problem of led.

Oh but i should dismiss the educated veiw for what you precieve, no wonder we quit selling led grow lights, were actually clever here not dumbass sheep.

You will never get it but you do do a great job of rrolling your own zero science opinion to other noobs, how it all started with those 90w leds way bavk when you werent here :-)
