cuz foil can't burn plants smartass. this is a myth spread by people that don't know what is what. Don't blame the aluminum because you didn't know how to work it.

Actually foil will create hotspots, but if you're using flourescents it's not a big deal.

I didn't read all the pages, i saw a bunch of flames within the first 10 posts, so here's my 2c.

Jesus Christ! ES, what's your problem?? There are tons of people here that aren't telling lies, foil=hotspots=bad choice.

Paint it white, get mylar, or panda.

(Funny shit though) Ml Frank's complete guide to marijuana horticulture reccomends drapeing foil from your lights, but it was written before mylar and panda was around.

ES is on the 70's knowledge, pre-HID.

Aluminum foil is what? $5 for a box?

I got all the mylar needed for my project (32 square feet) for $5...

So the question is... What is the BENEFIT to using aluminum foil? Are you saying it is cheaper? Cuz its not..

So for the same price, why would someone go with something that is typically unaccepted?

Cuz people can't normally just snap their fingers and have mylar drop into their lap for $5.

For $10-15 you can go to about any hardware store, or walmart and pick up a gallon of elastomeric paint which has reflectivity properties of 90-95%. Not the MOST reflective material but certainly VERY efficient and no hotspots.

You know, a simple observation that I've found is that when people like ES participate in a thread, it really brings out a lot of information that is confirmed by a bunch of different growers.

So...

7th1der just got a bunch of excellent answers brought on by one person acting like a dumbass.

In conclusion, people like ED do have a good place on these boards... Call them... Info-generators!

This is actually a good INFOWAR for being stoned. And in my research, I found another hydro store not too far from my house, so I think I will be going there just to get the mylar because everyone around me is charging about 80 bux for a big ass roll of panda film.

for a few extra bux the hydro shop near me has mylar with a mesh backing supposed to be a lot stronger and easy to clean check it

In my experience, the shiny side of the foil "in some cases" burnt the plants... while the other side, the matte side of the foil worked great. Nearly as well as a good smooth surface as flat white paint. The problems come with the material being so weak that it tears all the time. I had some on a micro grow with a 150W HPS back in the day of Overgrow.com and it worked ok, but there are definitely better setups. I ended up with flat white for clean-up and durability. Panda film is about as reflective as paint. Mylar is more so. Nothing is more durable than paint on a hard surface.
