I just bought some Citrus Tone 5-2-6 to go with my Garden Tone 3-4-4 and lets see what happens
You might be on to something about the quality and consistency. Some people seem to be doing okay with it but the stuff I got was like a bag of barkdust and wood chips. I got it for outdoor flower containers because it was cheap.Quality control is the baghouse complaining to the loader operator that the splinters are poking thru the bags.
Most operate on poured concrete slabs, but ramp up in spring and dump raw materials everywhere. Loader operators scoop too deep full of rocks and bugs, dump it on chipped pine instead of the hardwood sawdust. Then bake it half as long in warmer temps during busy season. The pine decomposes at a different rate, and the bugs hatch just as you open the bag at home and sift the rocks out. Another loader operator may have a better eye and experience and turn out perfect batches from the same plant.
I'm done with pre mix, just do ProMix or Peat and make my own with perlite, Espoma and a few additives.Or buy the stuff thats been buried under snow all winter stored in the back of the garden center, thats aged nicely with the rocks.
Edit* Holy crap, thats all wood and no peat. No wonder quality is all over the place with that stuff. The different trees composting together will never work without time. At least with peat there is a more definite PH and rate to start with.
I saw an open bag somewhere, It looked like pine mulch, was shocked it was potting soil. You might be on to something about the quality and consistency. Some people seem to be doing okay with it but the stuff I got was like a bag of barkdust and wood chips.
I used the Holly Tone (extra sulfur, lower PH) mixed on the bottom sides of the bag, offset it with Pelleted dololomite, DE, and oyster flower. Then used Tomato Tone (extra calcium) plus extras for the rest of the bag.I just bought some Citrus Tone 5-2-6 to go with my Garden Tone 3-4-4 and lets see what happens
I'd like to see those too, the pictures of the death. I wonder if it's the same type of death that's happening to one of my plants in some patio plus right now. It's been amended but cook time was only 1 week before putting plant in. Or. Problem can be the soil's wood wasn't aged long enough from kellogsI should show you some pictures of the death and hell that stuff has caused me.. Unless you amend the shit out of it... I used some for a few clones and they hated it...The ones in ffof BOoom. I have run it side by side looking to save time and money...Do yourself a favor pay the money or spend the time...
