well, the way to get the most would be to run a Sea Of Green, or sog, you would have to get smaller pots, but the cheap plastic grow bags work great, and are very cheap, and reusable, at least 3 or 4 times. the 2 gallon size is good, they're not much bigger around than the 1 gallons, but taller.
you typically run a sog with clones, but you can start one off with seeds, while getting a good mother or two going. just run the same seeds, so they grow at least close to the same. you don't top, you veg just enough to get them about 12-14 inches tall, then flip them to flower. you typically cut most of the branches off, leaving only the main stem and the 2 healthiest looking branches. they grow quick, and never get very large. you can fit at least 16 in your 4x4, maybe 20. i'd run two mothers, maybe 3. take clones as soon as you flip the last batch, and you've got your next crop ready to grow by the time this one is done.
i will point out that most places have a plant count you're allowed, if you live in a legal state. this could put you well past that limit, so keep the rules where you live in mind.
if you don't live in a legal place, it can raise you from one set of penalties to the next, so look up your local laws and see if it's worth the risk to you.
scrog is a good method, but you have to veg longer, you want to have your screen at least half full before you flip. you can just start plants a little sooner, so the next one is ready when you want it.
