Hitler convinced the German population Jews where greedy and kept all their wealth to themselves. It’s how he made stealing posessions of Jews (like diamonds) acceptable by the public. Hence, touchy subject. There is a difference between frugal and greedy, and between the origins of their association with Jews but trying to explain that to an extremist like Buck would be futile.
Negative? Where is your outrage about people in Belgium calling the Dutch penny pinchers ( in various different terms) for almost 150 years in one of the longest running jokes ? Being frugal isn’t negative. Being “as frugal as a Jew” is a compliment in Amsterdam. It means you have learned how to spend your money wisely. An example of a negative stereotype would be the ones we have about Americans being big spenders and wasting money, being unappreciative.
