First time grow 4 x 8 lighting suggestions

hey everyone, I’m getting ready to start my first ever indoor grow in a 4 x 8 gorilla tent with an 8 bubble flow bucket system from super closet. I’ve been doing so much researching and review reading on lighting and I’m simply on information overload. I’ve considered ViparSpectra, Kind, MIGRO, and Timber pre builts. I’ve looked at grow journals for all of the above and seen good and bad results.

It seems everyone has an opinion on what is shit and what is best. I’m really hoping I could get some suggestions on the best lighting for a 4 x 8 to produce quality product and decent yields. Money isn’t too much of a concern but I really don’t want to spend 3k$ on lighting. My goal is to find solid lighting to produce about 3 pounds for a reasonable price.

Thanks in advance!

Are you open to DIY, or do you plan to stick with pre-built fixtures? If pre-built, my recommendation would be two of these:

I’m open to DIY but currently I know next to nothing about setting one up so I’d prefer pre built.
Thank you for the suggestion on the light. It looks great but something that worries me is only have a 1 yr warranty as opposed to many other companies offering 3 years.

Stay away from blurple lights. Timber is good stuff.
Also https://horticulturelightinggroup.com, Cobkits.com and rapidled.com,
Samsung and Bridgelux strips are excellent if you don't mind DIY.
1000-1200 watts at 3000k or 3500k color temp is quite common for a 4 x 8.
Thank you for the information. So would you recommend cob over any other setups. And I should be looking for at least 1200 theorictcal output or actual wattage pulled from the wall?

Theoretically 'bout a pound of lighting needed bruh

Personally, I wouldn't be too worried about the warranty. Quantum Boards and the Meanwell drivers that power them have an excellent track record for reliability, and if something did go south, they're probably the easiest setup to troubleshoot and fix yourself. But I do understand that not everyone is as comfortable with that sort of thing.

Yes, 600w per 4x4 is a good target for a tent grow. (In an open space, you'd want more.)

Actual wattage from wall.. but because efficiency can be different from one type of light to another it will vary if you compare a hps, blurple or samsung LED/COB

2 HLG-600 will do perfect for a 4x8 and you should be good to get 2-3 pound more or less depending on your grow skills.. make sure temps and humidity are good at all time. Because you are going hydro, make sure PH and PPM of your water is good, make sure good airflow in the tent, etc all those will impact your final yield! Yes light is probably one of the biggest part of the final yield but failing in any of the above aspect can have significant impact as well..

How much heat do those 600’s produce?
Would you recommend suplplementing side bar lighting around the edges to encourage density growth? Along with the 2 hlg-600.

I believe I have the other stuff down and already have all the equipment to maintain proper ph and my tap ppm is really low to start which will help.

2 600 watt HPS should easily get you 3 lbs per 4x8 and only cost you $300 for both instead of instead of 700 for one HLG 600.
He will need to have a way to cool it down. 600 watts are obviously lees heat than 1000 watt but they will generate some heat.

He could get vented hoods and run the hoses to cool it down.

Hey buddy I think you made it to the wrong section of the forum..

2x600w hps should get you between 600-1200g at 0.5-1g/w so 3 pounds ? Not saying impossible but not likely in most cases. Also 1200w of samsung LM561C s6 LED will easily outperform 2x600w HPS by a significant margin (id say probably at least a 30% difference probably even more).. just because they are much more efficient and it will be much easier to deal with the heat because they will produce less heat..

Thanks for trolling this new grower :eyesmoke:

How many strips are needed bro?
I am not trying to pimp this eBay ad but I found them on eBay.

Two 600 watt Meanwell drivers? Thanks.

I mean you could but if youre to do that might as well build a samsung strips set up right away from the start.. at 650-700w maximum for each 4x4 seems to be about the maximum you can push before you need to add co2 for additional benefits..

Sorry, just giving him an option as it will take him at least $1,500 min DIY to light that 4x8 area eff.
And a 600 can get a experienced grower almost 2 lbs a light in a 4x4.

Im very interested to see grow journal or reports of 2pounds on a 600w hps in a 4x4.. there is not many.. most reports ive seen range between 300-600g and 600g would be experienced grower in perfect condition.. that would not even be 1.5pound off one light.. not sure where you got your number from..
