Did you notice any result differences trying 3000k or 5000k or mixed?

I know this question is asked a lot but i dont recall anyone posting their results of a (hopefully) controlled test between the two, or with staggered as well.

I also hear a lot of people saying it matters much less than the cost/headache is worth, and some saying it totally affects bud shape and quality, etc.

???

Plenty of blue in the 3000k... Not enough red in 5000k.. Imo

looking at the spectrums, it seems like 5000k has a decent amount of reds at that hump at 620, what would be more appripriate? 3000k has a blue at .55 intensity, and 5000k has a red at .7 intensity, so can you explain what you mean

My current experiment is with 5700k and 3000K EB strips , 200 watts of each , on the same panel (4.5 sq foot tent). I can confirm what ^HydroDan is saying. I can literally stop vertical growth with the 5700K. I screwed up this run (PH problem, nute lockout :-( and just me screwing with the lights, so the buds are all short because of it), but this was an experiment to prove exactly that; when you give them lots of blue you get more compact growth (which can be good depending on what you are trying to do), seemed slower growth to me as well, but that could be an illusion. I didnt log this run and should have so time frames on the scrog are difficult to estimate, but the idea for the next run will be 3000K on for the entire veg scrog period until its ready to flip to 12/12 (lets call this 'fast n loose' vegging), then use a combination of the two colour temps to control stretch while initially flowering and then back to the 3000K full until the last couple weeks and then back to the 5700K at finish as I hear it can improve terps, flavours etc. So basically I built two lights in one to do this little experiment, but for most people, 3500K from start to finish works. I will have more definite results after a couple more runs.

Another thought was maybe to just go 3000K until the branches have reached the height you want, then stop vertical growth dead with the 5700K and use the blue for the entire flower period?? Hmmmm.
p.s.I experienced light burn on the tops of the buds whenever I go over 35,000 Lumens at canopy. Just a notable piece of info.

I just made a light with 33 one foot Strips
18 3500k
9 3000k
6 4000k
Why? For shit's and giggles. I figure a balanced diet of light for my plants shouldn't kill thell but hell I'm no scientist.

at the end of the day you have about a 3500k spectrum. using equal amounts of 4000k and 3000k is the same as using 3500k
I made my light modular because I liked the idea of playing with light recipes too. I can swap out the bars in minutes. The Idea of using 5700k to control stretch intrigues me.
Growing in a shorter space or even stacking your grow space.
I'm limited in space and amount of juice available.
I only have so many watts and square feet here :cry:.

That is the idea, and the point, controlling growth characteristics through variations in the light spectrum, BUT the variations cannot be simultaneous, uh oh I smell burning toast..lol.. mixing whites just averages them out. Swapping out bars is added work, my solution was to double the wattage required, I am actually at about 440 watts total; for a 27x27 tent, the upside for me is I can split this into separate lights later on or for the next experiment etc. So IMO the only reason to have two different white colour temps in the same panel is to be able to switch between them or to use them simultaneously with dimmers to create a range of colour temps on the fly. Just mixing a bunch of 5000k and 3000K's isn't doing anything the same wattage of 4000Ks wouldn't. Its nonsense.

I should also say this light is only going to be in this tent for a short while. I'm moving it to a 5x3 tent. The strips were all the same price too. The 5000k or 5700k and 2700k were sold out at the time or I would have bought some of those too.
I'm going to add some far red chips too later this month.
I'll also be adding another driver and more strips to give more control and power plus wireless control with my Sonoff (whenever they arrive).
I'm learning and we all make some mistakes. I do have to say I really liked building my light.

I should have noted that I cannot use all 440 watts at once. about 250 is the max for that tent. So I can just use the 5700K up to 220 watts or the 3000K up to 220 watts or some combination of both that doesn't exceed 250 watts. Plus with the EB strips being so cheap I was able to get the cost in at just under $2 per watt, which isnt too shabby imo. I mean for that capability.

someone is bound to note that there is a slight increase in efficiency towards the higher Kelvin temperatures, so actually combining say 4000K and 3000K would probably give you something like 3600K, no? Just a random thought

so far..my 3000k vs 5000k panel flower test:

we are getting well into flowering..to the eye the 5000k is doing easily as good as the 3000k..

we will see eventually...

but already obvious there is little difference

the test is really done to see if 5000 k makes more potent medicine..as wellas flowered for 24

weeks until all the fans a and sugar leaves are gone..and the plant "changes " and

ripens/ almost cures on the vine...

pretty out there thinking..but i am not here to follow mainstream conventional wisdom..

and was told that once i do this i will never want to do it any other way...

again: we will see

both spectrums have own driver, and with sonoff, I start my 3500K alone for first hour of day, the 4000K turn on for rest of day, then 4000K off for last hour, then Night Puck on for 20 minutes to end day.

500par at 18 inchs, 200watts

I have one of those in my flower tent. I was told to run it all day and 15 min at lights out.

Yeap, GrowMau5 puck. Humm, I go by what GrowMau said. And really, it only needs to be on for 5 minutes total when lights out. Not sure the benefits all day, as its only like 10 watts i think it was.
