would it be possible to make a good LED cob set up for around 300-400 CAD that would work well for a 4x4. i know buying a already made setup would cost like $1000k+ from what i have seen can i get some help with this

You could go with pcb's and lower cost that way, as pcb's are more efficient than the cob's regarding load requirements and energy used, and heat generated. pcb's generate less heat, use less, power, and spread light out more uniformly.

For a 4x4 you could use 4-200w GrowGreen or any other 200w rated pcb boards, at cost around $100/board. Four boards $400 plus 4 MW drivers $160, plus heatsinks $100 plus wiring and frame another $60 for a total maybe $700 total. You could go modular and build two units at around $350 a piece as your money is available.

Look at rapidLed cob prebuilt fixtures for Vero and Cree......

For a 4" 4' tent it costs a bit more than 400$, maybe 450-500.
8-10x Samsung F-Series strips, ~200-250$
10x aluminum C-channel, 1x 1x 1", 4ft long, as heatsinks and for the frame, 50$
1x Meanwell HLG-480H-48A, 140$

~500w of true Samsung LM561c S6.
Yeah! Not as cheap as the chinese mid-power LED boards but you can be sure that you got no fakes.

i was thinking of getting the CXB3590 4' X 4' GROW KIT but would have to save a bit more but it would be good as you can add to that i was also looking at the timber 4x4 as well
well looks like i will have to bite the bullet and go with a bit more pricey unit

Why no pictures of lights on your website only a video of an arduino. Would it not be better to have pics or videos of lights?

question i already have a 400w hid system that im looking to replace it was given to me and i have a 200w clf
would it affect my plants adding say a cheaper cob system to this until i can fully replace it looking at the cob kits i think my huge reflector i could attach the cobs to it or would i be better off just buying building a full system
the hood that i have now covers like 70-80% of my tent

Of course!
At first you could hang half the strips or COB's to the HPS/CFL and if you've saved enough, buy the other half and replace the HPS completely.
I would put the COB/heatsinks in the tent corners or you could glue/screw some 2ft F-strips on the reflector. The Samsung strips do not require expensive heatsinks, just a flat mounting surface.
The strips use the same diodes as quantumboards(LM561c/S6 bin) which means they are really efficient and you can spread the light better with strips.
There are lots of threads about these strips (Samsung F- and H-Series, Bridgelux EB-Series) and the handling is very simple. Maybe the easiest way to get started in the DIY-LED area!

Running the GG boards at 200 watts is like a death ray unless you got the height lol

Hahaha!

It's alibaba crap so what did you think off? We can be happy that at least on these boards still genuine LM561c are mounted. If there really is a bottleneck, because Samsung is switching production lines to LM301b, it could soon be over.
Maybe we should try to get these boards with LM301b as soon as possible!
