As you can see a meaningless troll insulted me for no reason and gave no decent explanation.
Not surprised no one took the high road and complimented yodaweed for being the most reasonable poster in the thread.
Standard move in the led section is to ignore and move on to talk about the newest light and how it kicks hps's ass lol..

I made such a long list I don't want to leave anyone off but the list is so long. Almost forgot the Dr. so I put him on top lol. Sorry for the many members I excuded that should be on this list. I only picked up the names below with a quick scan of the other sections.

You can say there are jerks on both sides.
But if there was a visitor to one of our sections and a group of any four names below were conversing with the person and a troll showed up and started badgering the visitor. These guys would take over for the guy being badgered. If they stayed silent and let him be badgered, one of the other members below would jump in and attack the troll or might even attack the other regulars for staying silent.

For what must be closing in on the thousandth time:

It's not the type of light source that matters. It's the quality of the light. There are more sources available to generate good light than you can shake a stick at. The only thing that makes HPS the "go to" light is how consistent it is. You buy an HPS fixture, put an HPS bulb in it, you're going to get good light almost no matter what manufacturers bulb you put in there.

LED and COB on the other hand aren't like that. There are some devastatingly good ones out there that do a fantastic job. There are also some not worth lighting a Christmas tree with, let alone trying to grow anything with.

That's where the big disconnect is: people think one is better or worse than the other. It isn't. So long as it's a QUALITY fixture (on the LED/COB side of things) then it really doesn't make one fat rats ass worth of difference.

If you pay for your electricity then at least efficiency does make a big difference. Biggest part of the costs of growing cannabis is the electricity used. If you can decrease that by 40% to 50% then that's a huge saving.

Not for a small, personal use grower it doesn't. If you're growing in a tent or small room, efficiency makes very little difference in the United States with only one exception.

You can't. That is simply not possible.

The best COB on the market right now is roughly 25% more efficient than an HPS is. Unfortunately, that same fixture cost 325% as much to purchase. So, no. You're wrong. Flat out.

Before you talk more stupidity, look up my earlier posts and you'll see I've done all the math on it about 12 times.

I'm sorry, I did not mean for anyone to need to get involved, I should have said that.
I was just creating an example of differences I think I see in this section vs others.

It was a random selection of members from recent posts.
Hope the example was taken as a compliment by the overall group mentioned.
It was meant as a compliment.

Also to the rest I did not mean protect any noob from trolls. I meant if you were engaged in a good conversation with someone new to RIU. You would not let the troll take control of the conversation. That's all I mean. :peace:
 
Can't talk for the states, but in Europe the potential energy savings make more than a lot of difference. We tend to pay quite a lot for electricity compared to U.S, and when you can yield the same for fewer watts used, well then that's rather welcome.

Ease up on the guy, he was making a hypothetical.

And to be honest, I've seen several grows used with just LED that did almost equally as well as the same conditions in HPS. Using less watts and less money spent on cooling.

Also, to note, some folks grow for personal use, and in that case, who the fuck cares what they use? As long as they are getting what they want, right?

And if youre growing big time indoors, you aren't using RIU for advice on what light source to use.

So basically you are yelling at someone for something that literally has zero impact on you and your life.

First off, I state fact, not made up hypothetical bullshit.

Secondly, I didn't "yell" at anybody. I typed plain, simple sentences.

Fun fact: it's easier to cool an HPS than an LED. You're spouting pure bullshit. You can slap an HPS in a tube and cool it with a single 4 inch fan. You can't put an entire LED fixture in a fucking tube. You spend FAR MORE on fans and circulation cooling LED fixtures than a single HPS bulb.

And again, learn to fucking read. I STATED IN PURE FACT that either was just as good and would get the job done. You're just once again making shit up to try to troll the populace as usual.
