From what I looked up the fastest recorded, modified, p1000 is around 10.4 in the quarter. 10.4 to 8 is a HUGE jump.
These cars were racing 1/8 mile....hardtop beat a tesla at 0-60...or 0-100. Street drags are rarely 1/4 miles...
To be clear, it's a Tesla Model S P100D.

1/8 mile racing would very much play to the strengths of electric drive.

NUMMI couldn't make money because those who follow the rules these days are at a competitive disadvantage to those who don't but aren't held accountable.

This goes far beyond the car industry.
Didn't Nummi also have two fairly crap cars they made? Toyota Corolla and also a Chevy version of the Corolla? It is very hard to make any money on basic cars because there is no profit margin. Also it is hard to have a factory in an area where the cost of living is very high.

And yet Toyota and Honda have mastered it.

If tariffs reflected the true economic environment of making cars it wouldn't be a problem. The subsidies are many and often hidden.
