I run 1000w regular hortilux, two 300w equiv mars hydros one real cheap 50w led in a shady corner and walmart cfl randomly as needed for a shaded spot that looks worthy.

I like idea of one as work horse the others as suppliments, and i can tell you the buds directly under led, are usually the tightest by end and just different general appearance even on same plant...


I run cmh in veg and would love trying it in flower.

Don't try a top quality LED or you'll turn into a fanboy and be completely insufferable to the HPS diehards... Lol

Oh i think someday technology will take us all there, for same cost as we have today for an hps... but i just dont feel its hear yet. Were in the era when like the vcr was $1000... but i dont feel its here yet..

Till then ill take my homegrown hybrid system

Here is a big point I think amongofrog is missing ....... HORTILUX IS RELEASING AN LED NEXT MONTH..........HMMMM IF IT ISN'T AS GOOD AS HID, THEN WHY WOULD THE MOST WELL KNOWN GROW BULB PRODUCER COME OUT WITH AN LED? UNLESSSSSSSSS............

I think a mongo frog has a point though. Sure LED can be more efficient, but the off the shelf fixtures which actually are 30% more efficient than a 1000W DE HPS are still ridiculously expensive.

When you buy these pre-made "hobby" fixtures from people who turned their hobby builds into a sold product, then it's already twice as expensive as DIY. Properly professional fixtures which could be deployed in greenhouses or indoor industrial grows are easily 3 or 4 times the price of DIY. Would you still be able to recoup that extra investment on energy savings (plus bulb and reflector swaps) then?

Still, prices of leds keep coming down and efficiency keeps going up, so at some point it should start to entice more and more big commercial growers to switch.

It's not really a question of "if" it happens, but more "when".

Yes it does make sense as an investment. Most commercial facilities qualify for rebates on these fixtures. Couple that with no annual bulb change and energy savings in both lighting and HVAC. Also in new buildouts the required HVAC system cost is also lower. I know it's hard to believe right now but we get lots if inquiries from commercial facilities. The only thing we don't currently have is ETL/UL. We are going to have it with the Elite though. No where did anyone bash HID before amongofrog took it personally when I stated a fact that HID can't do vertical farming. All the guys that don't think Cannabis production is heading in that direction are in for a rude awakening. Some of these systems I've been shown are very well thought out and make very good use of commercial warehouse space. A couple of them have secured over 100 million in round 2 funding...... A lot can be done with that kinda money.

Im not missing nothing. I read your OP. I have LED's. I don't use them right now. You started this mess pages back, and all I did was join the conversation on the side of HPS as where I thought you were wrong.

Yes but why couldn't they? Vertical racks wouldn't require the boards to be run hardso drive them at a lower current and run them closer. And gain efficiency in the deal. Seems to make sense to me

yes, that's exactly what I think. HPS is still dominant because its been the only option for so long. People hate change, even when its good for them. "Automobiles will never replace horses" famous last words... Just because it works, doesn't make it the best solution. And I repeat, if the industry and home growers don't get on the efficiency bandwagon real quick, government will force them to. Studies to back policy and regulation is already in process. And maybe that should be if people aren't smart enough to go that way on there own. Indoor growing is a tremendous strain on the power grids. Of course, if politicians had half a brain, they'd allow home growers to grow outdoors. But you know, they must appease the haters..........
