See if you can find a metal supermarket in your area. The aluminum is so cheap compared to other places and they cut it to length for you. Oh, just read you have the aluminum already. You'll be fine but yeah it does kinda suck buying it at C-tire or Home Depot type stores.

HERE's a link for any Canadians or even Americans that have one of these stores in their area. I haven't seen a better place for buying aluminum.

$31 for 8 foot 3/4" structural channel. Nah. I can get 3/4" architectural channel for a third of that at my local Do It Best hardware store. And its not flimsy in the least.

That's really great for you. Not everyone (especially Canadians) have access to cheap aluminum. Metal Supermarket is as good as it gets.

Thanks Danielson999, turns out there's one of those places not far from me.
Will be worth it just to not have to cut it myself with my crappy reciprocating saw.

Thanks for the tip. Another idea for those with access to a shear and brake, I cut strips from aluminum sheet and bent them into a channel... dirt cheap.

Just thought I'd mention this... I was thinking of making a 2ft square light and have some 44" EB strips so I had a look... it appears the 44" strips could be cut in half yielding 22" strips that run on 44 volts rather than the normal 22v.

I really like the store here. I walked in and they asked me what I was looking for. I wasn't 100% sure of thickness and shapes so a guy took me into the shop and we looked at their entire inventory. I picked out what I wanted and stood there with him while he cut it up for me. They have sheet aluminum also and cut it to any size you want.
I got about 70 feet of 1" aluminum tubing cut to size for about $100cdn. Try going to a typical metal fabricator and the cost will double at best.

We do pay a premium for most things and that's just the way it is. Our country is huge with little population so shipping is costly and that is reflected in the price of basically everything. I thought NAFTA was supposed to ease the pain also but not even sure what it does anymore.
Us Canadians just drool over the pricing you guys have on alot of stuff. Then we order it and after shipping, duty and brokerage fees it costs just as much as ordering from a Canadian company that imports it.

Figured I'd share my results from my first harvest under these strips. . 5 girls were all packed under under the 1 bridgelux fixture I built which was 6 strips running 300w total.
391g harvest so 1.3g a watt? Pretty decent but im sure I'll get more next grow as I had a fair few issues this grow. Will have 1200w total over 8 plants next grow with Rdwc. These strips rock! They really fattened up the buds over the last 10 days or so.

OK, I have a 3x2 cab, (actually 3.5 in x 22in) I want 1000 ppfd. I probably will have to use the 280mm version as the cab is exactly 22 inches deep. How many strips? 1 or 2 drivers? I'm thinking between 18 and 24. What you guys think? I know I need as close to 300w as possible to achieve my target ppfd.

im getting 1000 and over at 8" with my 6 strip setup thats 50w x 6 = 300w. thats with the 1M strips. if you want that PPFD with lights higher then that i'd go double that.

What's the preferred hardware for mounting these to aluminum?

Just a snug screw?

Anyone got a pic of their mount job handy lol.
