Blurple Led Yes or NO?

Agreed! currently looking for some uv supplementation for my new girls. Lots of options.
For joe or jill schmo growing in the dorm room closet, heck yea a mars300 will pull 3 oz or more on a plant if your dialed in.
But on that hypothetical thread you'll get a half dozen jerks chiming in about "grow big or go home"
Typically spouting nonsense about a 400 watt hps and expensive and elaborate methods to prevent your closet from becoming a pizza oven.
Either that or the cob/quantum guy pointing them to a 2 to 300 dollar diy, when the OP in question is likely living on ramen noodles.
Grab some flouros, blurple, what ever and get growing!!! Its fun, its rewarding, and you'll get stoned either way!

Good hunting
hell yeaaaa

if the blurples can give you .75gpw, i would say thats winning for the money it cost to grow the crop. even with 1000watt hps, not all growers will hit over 1.0gpw, so let the people do what they wanna do and they will live and learn from what they're using and make changes to increase their harvest. Don't be so judgmental on them. Peace out!
I'm not judging those who want to use those type of lights, I'm arguing with someone who's spent the last few days ridiculing valid information and the people who have more experience than him and suggesting because those of us who offer advice regarding better lighting and point out the flaws in the advertising we are on "the take" from advertisers on here.

Folk come on here every day and ask "is this light as good as it claims" the answer 99% of the time is no unfortunately. So if we are collectively not in favour of blurple its for valid reasons. But yes they will grow weed and yes the price point is a good starting point for some folks.

If I came across as judgmental on those who want to use a blurple then that was not my intention. But after spending the last few days reading that guys posts he prompted me to say something. For what its worth that's the first time in the 6 and a half years I have been on here I have felt the need to criticise or even come close to arguing with another member on here. :bigjoint::peace:

for a test grow I grew 3 plants in my back yard this summer. I live in the high desert where the air is thin and dry. one plant got direct sunlight all day long. the second had shade from 9:00 to 3:00 and the third had full shade. guess which one grew the best and provided the best yield. you can have too much light and a 400 watt HPS in a closet would just burn your plants up. with the growth of legalization for medical and recreational use their is a growing number of small PU growers. it is a fun hobby and we should relax and enjoy it. good luck with your grow. I would choose a vipraspectra 300 over the mars based on personal experience but both are available at walmart along with a good selection of T5sfor a small PU grower any of these will work and can be had for under $100 with no need to punch holes in your walls for blowers and vents.after my state legalized recreational use this year a few people have asked me to help set up their grow closets and teach them to grow.as a PU MMJ grower I have been legal for several years and people that try my "medicine" tell me that its better than what dispensaries are selling. we should be encouraging and helping new growers instead of trying to stroke our own egos. grow boss (youtube) claims that 85% of new growers fail. some people are trying to change that. the agrowmax UVA plus bulb looks like a good option for HPS and LED growers to get the UV and violet that's missing in their lights. in the mid 70's I was living on potatoes and canned food and growing bag seed in my closet with T12 gro-lux bulbs. and had fun doing it.

I started with 2 Apollo 400 blurple and did great. But as funds became available and with some honkytonk engineering I'm running with as much as 500 watts in Vero 18 gen 7 cobs in a 3x3 (total overkill)
Its easy to put better chips in the cheap Amazon cobs and get a great light.

But if I had to start over I'd snatch up a couple blurple ufos or fluorescents and a home depot tool cabinet, throw a desk fan in, drill some holes and be harvesting in no time with a big smile!
Truthfully as gardeners and human beings in general it everyone's duty to be supportive of the little guy.
I'm just as perturbed about the deceit in the led market as the next guy.
A company shouldn't say mars 300 if the number doesn't match the specs.
They screwed up their own industry drawing scrutiny to themselves.
the tech is solid and it works to its true wattage in most cases. With blurple, as a rule I won't buy it if it doesn't say its true wattage.
Ill check out that agro max thanks!

I started out with 2 300 watts galaxyhydros in my closet. I knew they werent the greatest lights but budget stopped me from buying better lights which is most peoples problem. I got over 4 oz dry of dense nugs off them cheap lights 1 plant. Now i have a 400 watt hps cooltube in there with them for some overkill lol.

I had a blurple cob off of Amazon that never did my plants any harm, definitely make sure you know your true wattage and don't go by the 1200w or whatever they say they are. They're not as efficient as white cobs(from personal experience) and supposedly quantum boards are even more efficient although I haven't had the chance to use any yet.

If you find a decent blurple cob on amazon with decent drivers you could always run a harvest with the blurple then swap the cobs on your next grow, replacing them with decent cobs would range from like $10-40 per chip to get something decent depending on driver limitations and how good of a chip you want to buy.

If you have to go with the standard blurple chip lights try to get at least 5w chips.

Okay, you obviously don't understand who the fuck you are talking to. I am the most free thinking person you are likely to meet in your life. I am not going anywhere with any brainwashing shit, I made an attempt to illustrate the flaw in your logic but all you can apparently think about is your hard-on for whatever group you claim to be against. I do not give a fuck what lights people use, at all. I honestly have no idea who you think you are fighting, but it sounds like paranoia. You might have a problem you aren't aware of, like an undiagnosed mental illness. I do not intend any insult to you by saying that, it is my intuition, based on experience. You have been deeply insulting to my individual intellect and integrity. You have a crusade to wage, that's fine, leave me out of it.
Nobody gives a shit what u say buttercup! I'm guessing you eat crayons and lick windows because you sound that dumb. not trying to insult you, just being honest.

I went out of my way to stay civil, and this is your response? People who matter actually do care what I say, dingaling. I am smarter than you, and people like me more. You aren't trying to be honest, you are a naturally disrespectful, intellectually-dishonest piece of barely-human garbage. You aren't trying at all. Congratulations, you made an enemy.

Modest burple Chinese led is what I have. $139. Attempting one pIant to grow big. I just augmented it with two CFL bulbs, 2700K 43 watts each. Flower stage. I'm awaiting super frosty trichromes, may not see any.

I grew with blurple lights including Lumigrow, Vipar, Magnum and cheap generic blurple. They will grow cannabis but do not come close to COBs or boards or older high end white/red discrete panels. They will grow much more high quality herb.

I now use mostly COBs and a51(discontinued) white or white/red panels where needed. Blurple never kept up with HPS or CMH while COBs knock the hell out of all of them.

I really think a lot of energy went into blurple Lights since efficiently making white light not possible with LEDs. Then about 5 years ago I read an article saying that researchers had discovered a way to predict the effects of various phosphers on blue Light to produce white light. Everything seems to have changed since.

Damn! I hate blurple! (I do not hate people who use blurple lights, just the lights). Plants evolved in white light.

I have connected with another grower on another forum we started our grows within a few day of each other we are both using cana coco he has timbergorw cobs and his plants have grown at a faster rate than mine... we both just switched to flower so we will see

The problem with LED manufacturers is their exaggerated equivalency claim of their lights. I use blurple but I dont go with the equivalency claim, I base the LED in its 'true watts'.

If we can all calm down and really compare LED true watts to other lights with similar wattage then it would be a fair comparison. Say a 400 true watts 12 spectrum LED vs a 400 watts HPS for example?

With blurple I'd definitely agree.
Now 400 watts cob or quantum on the other hand,
Blurples work, just not half as well as they claim.
What I can't wrap my head around is why they would make such ridiculous claims.
Apollo led for example.
The 400 puts out like 185 watts at the wall. Two of them perform as well as a 400 watt hps by my past grows, maybe slightly better.
The hps is cheaper but has more heat.
The manufacturing of blurple is automated and materials are cheap so why get uber greedy and destroy your rep with lies? You're gonna sell more if you use actual wattage.

See this is exactly what I'm referring to...I mean LED users should forget the 400 and focus on the real wattage of 185 (as per morgwar example) then you better off in planning what area coverage is that 185 good for.

Morgwar, brother, you're right that two of those would be a fair comparison to a 400 watt hps.

Thanks man!
They were great lights because I had nowhere to vent my hps tube at the time. However price wise the hps wins as long as your set up for it.
I think you can get a 400 hps for under 100 bucks but 400 watts ACTUAL is gonna be 2 or three times that.
Despite my loyalty to led I have to say, if you can vent or if heats not an issue, hps gets the win over blurps.

I grew some very dense and sticky smell and potent buds under blurple but they were small. Went back to CMH and HPS for a while just to have enough. That changed forever with my first a51 Panel. Mars Hydro even has COB based lights these days.

I still use an actual 400W 12 band spectrum blurple but again I only use it in a 2x2 grow area. I think the advertised coverage of 4x4 is ridiculously exaggerated (for lettuce, a 4x4 might work).

That said, I would like to see a 400w HPS grow

Here's my blurple grow

I might be tempted to try one of those COB one of this day.
