CCC, He really really is one of the people capable of giving a technical argument. Just so you know.
Everyone else lets all just stop arguing. Its silly. If you read through it took one person to blow this thread up. The same person who always blows every LED thread up. That person does it for kicks. Don't respond, take the candy from the baby! He would of got bored of this a long time ago if it wasn't for everyone reacting to his comments and feeding his ego.
We all grow weed. This whole us and them shit is embarrassing.
Then why do I get one word and an insult? Whatever...I'd love to hear an argument favoring HPS from a guy with years of diy led experience. I think he's confused though no insult intended...I'm on my phone at work I may have overlooked something. Why is he offering an argument against led if he supports it and uses it?CCC, He really really is one of the people capable of giving a technical argument. Just so you know.

What don't you understand?What?
Your words, direct quote, I don't understand haha. However what you just wrote I clearly understand and I agree =)What don't you understand?
I said I have no qualms with whatever lighting you use, but keep it real.
He's saying what your saying is bullshit and I would tend to agree. I've seen some pretty good growers here and your 40-50% of wattage to produce the same seems a tad over stated. But until I switch I can't say.....just sayin lol.Your words, direct quote, I don't understand haha. However what you just wrote I clearly understand and I agree =)
"this is part of the problem, may 75-80% of the watts. unrealistic claim."

been hearing that same bs claim for the past 10 yrs. I know of commercial growers buying gavitas by the hundreds, they aren't buying or building garage lightsFor the record I said 50-60% wattage... So I agree bullshit on something I never said =) but yes 40-50% would be unrealistic, but you could still do a great grow.
This thread is falling off topic.
To the OP, if you want to grow LED then buy high end lights that use high end chips/cobs. Don't judge the quality of the LED by the cost of the led or you will be growing with mid grade LED lights. If you are willing to build your own you can save a decent amount of money and build top end LED's in todays current market of LED lights for growing.
At this point there are near countless grows done with LED that are equal to the best HPS grows, many times done by people that used to grow with HPS. Most of us would not be making the switch FROM hps to led if led was "meh". Most the haters of LED either grew with crap LED, knew someone that grew with crap LED or flat out never have grown with LED.
I suggest starting small, see for yourself before you dump a ton of time and money into it. Not that it matters because in 5 or so years most people will be growing with LED as at this point it's not about being better than HPS it's about the cost.
Is your life really that bad you have to come crap on other people's threads and questions? HPS works no one is debating that. This thread is the OP looking at benefits of switching to led. Many here are happy to chime in and share their experience.been hearing that same bs claim for the past 10 yrs. Your posts drag this thread out to make it a slur of insults, B.s., and straight up nonsense.
You clearly support HPS. If you read about the OP you would see he's used to growing with HPS. So they know their shit already. Don't need more B'S and crap to wade through to find some decent info.
Sorry I should have reread but so let's just clarify. Your saying you get the exact same results when you cut the wattage by 50-60%? So if you run 500 LED COBS and get the same results as a 1000 HID? And yes your right re cost being a huge factor for me. It seems that the same build in Canada is hugely more expensive .For the record I said 50-60% wattage... So I agree bullshit on something I never said =) but yes 40-50% would be unrealistic, but you could still do a great grow.

because it makes you so angry, and that makes me happy. I'm the blood cruising the crip turf.Gotta say that while I don't care about the fight or all the other bs in this thread, Dr. Nick Riviera you do come across as a troll, or someone who is in high school who is interested in growing, really doesn't, but has no problem making big claims. Kinds like Hazy Grapes.
Also you don't back up anything you say.... at all... ever...
You're probaply a good dude but aside from trolling I am not sure why you keep showing up.in the LED section.
Carry on yall.
if you say so,lolHa I am not angry in the slightest. It's you who certainly comes across that way. But carry on, you just make yourself look even more ridiculous.
best I've calculated is 731w to match a 1000...that's with cost as a factor of-course. I'm sure technically you could do better without considering cost but I'd say you'll save around 25% with LED currently. He's saying what your saying is bullshit and I would tend to agree. I've seen some pretty good growers here and your 40-50% of wattage to produce the same seems a tad over stated. But until I switch I can't say.....just sayin lol.
I think a LED light is best for you to grow plants. First thing is a LED light is colorful than HPS, an HPS light just release yellow light, you know. But LED light can release many kinds of colorful lights like purple, pink, yellow, and others. Second thing is LED lights can work much longer than HPS, according to the science, a LED lamp can work about 50K hours, but an HPS lamp just can work about 15K hours. It's more than 3 times longer than HPS, so you will save more money on a LED lamp. Third thing is an HPS lamp will release 360 degrees light, but LED just can release about 145 degrees light, but the ridiculous thing is so many people will say that an HPS can supply all the light for crops, but you should know what can make your crop absorb the light is the leaves, just think about outdoors, plants absorb the sunshine from the sky, not the ground. So a 360 degrees light will yield the crop is just ridiculous, and it will hurt your eyes at the time you turn it on.ok so have a new grow area in the works, I will be adding at least two new lights. maybe up to 4. I am looking at some 1000w hps, affordable to buy, reliable, and I KNOW they work. will also experiment with adding uv light with either a powerveg t5 or solacure t12. have the fixtures bulbs about $40 each.
but that's a lot of watts to run and that cost add up, at least heat shouldn't be a big issue, actually probably need it in the colder months.
so looked at a blackdog phytomax-2 600, that looks to be comparable to the grow power of 1000w hps.
why blackdog? cause it seems general agreement that they are quality led. I am noob to led never ran or bought them for growing.
but the energy savings would take 3 years to cover the added cost of the unit($1900 amazon) v hps complete(cooling too) setup ($300-350). I pay about 18 cents a kilowatt.
4) 4x4x8.25 grow rooms scrog, lst, sog grows. don't run trees very often.
soooo.....I work hard for my money and I don't like wasting it, as I plan to have this area running in less then 8 months prices and tech. wont change that much.
can you that grow with led help convince me. (I do love my planet and hate the energy company)
maybe a cheaper led light? have you increased yield from hps? led best for those with deep pockets and don't mind just spending money for fun? thru google I haven't even seen a commercial grow using led, probably for a good reason? maybe more reason I haven't thought of? heck by time three years go buy that same technology could be whole lot cheaper.
someone's a snitch. said it at the beginning.you pussies can't handle the truth and will just get me locked out.Apparently the mods also say so?!?! LOL
Have a good night doc.
